Officials, residents help unveil new facility By PEGGY O'HARE The Facts LAKE JACKSON — The long- awaited opening of the Lake Jackson Historical Museum Saturday drew a sizable crowd of several hundred people. Though the opening ceremony got off to a late start, due to a rainstorm that delayed the events, but the crowds took this time to explore the building. Children crowded around the interactive exhibits, yelping with delight. Speakers recognized the museum opening as a momentous event, one that shows Lake Jackson is proud of its past. State Sen. J.E. "Buster" Brown (R-Lake Jackson) presented historical association president Barbara Monical with a letter from Gov. George W. Bush commending the opening of the museum. Brown also described Lake Jackson's beginnings, when people settled in the area and built Dow Chemical in a matter of weeks.
