Charged with obtaining board with all the comforts of home for himself, wife, and' daughter upon fraudulent representations. William T. Castle, who claims to be a heavy holder of mining stock, a real estate operator and promoter, was held In XSCO bail for trial this afternoon by Magistrate Cunningham. Isaac B. Smith, the proprietor of a boarding-house at 140 Arch street, testified that Castle ran up a board bill of $834. When demands were mads for money Castle Is said to have told Smith fairy tales about the large -profits he expected from the sale of stocks and property; but he never seemed to effect such a sale. At any rate, he never paid the bill. This went on for over a year. When Smith intimated that he would have to go to law to collect the debt Castle gave him notes made by persons who sre said to have no financial standing. One day Castle left tbe Arch street house and did not return. A few days later his wife and daughters left. Then Smith obtained a warrant for Castle's arrest. After this hsd been served Castle gave Smith a certificate of stock In the Bonanza Hydraulie Placer Mining company, which he said was worth $2,&09. Smith said the certificate had no value. Castle's lawyer declared that the arrest of his client on a criminal charge was an outrage. "Mr. Smith can collect the debt by civil process." hs said, "but when he tries to enforce the payment of a board bill by criminal action he oversteps the mark."
