Kerwin Missing - First Canadian Reported Missing In Aleutian...
First Canadian Reported Missing In Aleutian Area Br The Canadian Press OTTAWA, July 20 Sqdn. Ldr. John W. Kerwin. of Toronto, reported missing in air operations over the Aleutian islands, apparently apparently is the first known casualty amon? R.CA.F. men sent to that war theatre. Announcement that Canadian airmen had been sent to the Aleutians Aleutians rone was made June 26 by Air Minister Power and Lt. - Gen. Kenneth Stuart, chief of general staff, at present actina as tempor ary commander in chief on the Paciflp. There has been no Indication up to now that the Canadians actually have been in action against the Jannnese. While Sqdn. Ldr. Kerwin might he missing as a result of such ac' tion, tho phrase "missing after air operations" would cover his failure to return from any operational flight, no matter what the cause might be, Including engine trouble.
