August or Legion 1532 dancing the his 2 at interested before last on police the no G. the forj in Company C Leaves For Training Camp Tonight Officers and men of Company C, 2nd Armored Battalion, 160th Infantry Regiment, Redlands' unit of the California National Guard, depart tonight for two weeks' field training at Camp Irwin near Barstow. The 59-members of the Guard unit will have a chance to test classroom lessons under ten days of tactical combat conditions in the desert area surrounding Camp Irwin. Company C, commanded by 1st Lt. Donald M. Fiedler of Redlands, will undergo intensive training in desert warfare, camouflage and concealment, Chemical-Biological-Radiological warfare, and firing of the 81 mm. mortar. This encampment marks the first year that the unit has spent ten days in the field. In past years, the Guardsmen have spent only four days under actual field conditions and the remainmg days of training were conducted at Camp Irwin itself. j The Redlands unit will be joined at Camp Irwin by many other units of the 40th Armored Division. New Tanks For the training period Com- jpany C will be issued new armored personnel carriers and new M75 tanks. Training will end OP July 23. Last year the local citizen soldiers were runnerups for the Adjutant Generals Trophy and were selected as the top unit in the 2nd Battalion. The company has had 100 per cent attendance at the last two summer camps and expecis to repeat that record this year. Lt. Fiedler stated that there are still openings in Company C and that a recruiting drive would be conducted after field training. He, said that high school and college; seniors may sign up for the compulsory six months active duty program and be deferred from it until after graduation.
