Miss Dede Shigley Wins Honors In Design Contest Miss Dedo Shigley of Lake Jackson, has been notified that her entry in a contest to find "New Ideas for Hack-to-School Wardrobes" has been awarded first prize in Texas thus making it eligible for national competition. The contest is sponsored by 'The American Girl," a national magazine published by the Girl Scouts of America, in cooperation with 175 stores throughout the United States. Girls from 10 to 17 years of age were eligible to compete for $3500 in national prizes. Miss Shigley entered through Buttrey's in A'jstin. and received the first prize of $25 in merchandise. Winners in the national contest will have their original designs manufactured for nation - wide marketing in addition to receiving for first place Honor's $500 in government bonds; second place, $200 bonds; and third place, $100 in bonds, respectively. The 15 year old Lake Jackson miss, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. M. Shigley, entered a original three-piece outfit, the skirt of which she actually had made in homemaking class during the recent school term. The skirt of chartreuse cofduroy features an applique toy train motif with an engine of 'gold corduroy with black trim and black pearl button wheels. A letter addressed to the designer in Lake Jackson, was placed on pearl button wheels to forrn the "mall car." Each "car" in the train was the result of similar originality. For the " contest - entry, Miss Shigley complemented a miniature of her skirt with a purple corduroy over - blouse, styled with ribbed jersey turtle neck and waistband, A chartreuse corduroy fitted jacket with purple trim completed the eye - catching ensemble at a total cost of $12.30. »' * .
