Injuries Received Prove Fatal Melvin Bartrem, 17, son of Mr. and Mrs. L. S. Bartrem, died Wednesday night at approximately 11 o'clock at the Creston hospital, where he had been unconscious since Sunday evening when he was involved in an auto accident on highway 25 near Kent. Bartrem was riding in a car driven by Harlan Shelman, which turned over several times after the driver lost control on the loose .gravel when he was blinded by bright lights of an approaching car. The car was almost completely wrecked. Bartremi was thrown from, the car and was found 30 feet from the automobile. Shelman, and two other Lenox youths who were also in the car escaped with bruises and cuts, The others were Carroll Hayes and Melvin Henderson. Deputy Sheriff William Hower, who investigated the accident, said Shelman told him he pulled out to avoid the approaching car, which he said was traveling at high speed, and lost control of the car on the loose gravel. Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at the Arnold Funeral Home, Rev. C. W. Richardson in charge.
