The late William Niblo could hardly be called a millionaire, but his lsst bequest ahowa an amount of public spirit of which New-York millionaires have- not shown themselves capable. At the time of his death Mr. Niblo's property is found to Lave been worth $300,000, half of which Was devoted to private "bequests, and the residue act aside for the benefit of the library of the Young Men's. Christian Association. The sum is in excess of the first Astor bequest for the library wUich taara the family name, and, relatively to the wealth of the , donor, is, of course, far more munificent. The money is destined , for most excellent purpose, but the setting apart of such a sum for a library of contracted scope is calculated to renew the xvgret that New-York does not possess the fcoeleua of m great public library worthy of the City.
