St. Johns Herald (AZ), Pg 1 - 4 May 1893 - RVB @ DAS Ranch
R. V. Bloxton visited last week Don San ford's catt le ranch in the southern part of the county and says that of 1200 head of cattle which were there at the beginning of the winter, less than 500 survive and that these are mostly yearlings, cows being very scarce. The number number of dead cattle near Calabasas has bred a myriad of flies which swarm upon the bridges over the arroyos, dense clouds, of them arising arising the engineer's say as the trains pass. The pests are already intensely intensely annoying to the ranchers who are often compelled to keep smoking smoking at their work and continually fighting them. So says the Citizen.
