Ga. - Mr. and Mrs. John Cornelius Pye of At- lantÂ« have announced the engagement of t h e i r daughter, Miss Alice Gayle Pye, to Thomas Jonathan Jackson Altizer. only son of Mrs. F r a n c e s Creetham Attiier of Monistown. N. J.. formerly of Charleston, W. Va.. and the late Jackson Duncan Altizer of Charleston. The wedding will take p'usc* on Thursday, July 13. in Atlanta. MISS PYE, a granddaughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. William Thomas Gayle and the late Mr. and Mrs. William Benjamin Pye. is a graduate of the Westminster School, attended Vanderbilt University and belonged to Alpha Omicron Pi Sorority. She received an A. B. degree from Emory University In 1960, was elected to Phi Beta Kappa, national scholastic honorary, and was a w a r d e d a Southern Fellowship for graduate work. She is currently studying for a master's degree in the Institute of Liberal Arts at Emory and will continue this program at the doctoral level next year. Miss Pye is a member of the Cotillion Club and belonged to the 1958-59 Debutante Gub of Atlanta. Mr. Altizer. who is associate professor of Bible and Religion received A. B. and A. M. de- at Emory, attended St. John's College. Annapolis, Md.. served in tbe USAF for two years and grees from the t'niversity of Chicago. In 1955. he obtained his Ph. D. decree from the University of C h i c a e o Divinity School and was assistant professor of religion at Wabash Cci!Â«:e. Irxi. ilr.
