Neal McCoy, 7-fopt-l, 18- year-old freshman from Hiram Johnson High School in Sacramento, has finally given Coach Ed Gregory the "big man" he has been looking for since he came here in 1965. McCoy, who was sought after by several schools, averaged 26 points, and 20 rebounds a game during the past season. The 215 pounder who wears a size 17 shoe was one of three outstanding .prospects from Sacramento who enrolled this weekend. The others are Brad Duncan 6-foot-5 All Northern California guard from El Camino Higl rom Brigham Young sity. School and former prep All American from El Camino 6-foot-5 Jeff Brandt, a transfer Univer- ged 17-points nbeaten state champion Comp- Duncan also is an outstanding pitching prospect who was drafted by the Chicago White Sox. Brandt will have to sit out his transfer year. Freshman basketball Coach Frank Carbajal formerly coached Duncan and Brandt at El Camino. Another big man among the 16 freshman hoop prospects is 6-foot-7 Charles Bailey from Northern Nashville High in Nashville, NC. Gregory is equally elated over the quartet of standout junior college transfers topped by the state's no. 1 and no. 3 scorers both of whom were all-state JC choices. Mike Hammock, -2y 2 forward from Merritt College in Oakland, led the state with a 35-plus scoring average while John Saf ford, 6-2 from Merced College had a 27-point average. Also enrolled are 5-foot-ll guard Gary Patterson who aver Hall Of Fame Lands a game for the ^c ^"fi'pender. Hammock, Patler- on College team and Safford's Ui-Conference teammate Jerry 'ender, 6-foot-3 leaper, who av- raged more than 20 points a game.
