U.S. Compels Nazis To Wear Swastika, Is Berlin Rumor Berlin. Sept. 26. P)-JAmericans in Berlin are busy these days knocking down with smiles a story going the rounds of the German capital that every German national iin the United States has been com-pellpd to wear the swastika, leading to orders that Jews in Germany must wear a yellow star of David on their left breasts. Jews have been wearing the star of David since September 19, and throughout the city one hears the people saying: "The Jews must wear the yellow star because America compels our Germans over there to wear the swastika." Offices of American newspaper correspondents and the United States embassy have received frequent inquiries whether the rumor is based on fact. The first inquiry to the Berlin bureau of the Associated Press came from someone who said he had heard that Milwaukee, Wis., was the first to enact such a regulation. As three staff members hail from Milwaukee, they were able to assure the inquirer they undoubtedly would have heard from home if the story were true. Official press officers said the power of the Gestapo will never entirely stamp out." He added: "The freedom that our scientists enjoy is a valuable weapon to us, for superiority in scientific development is a vital factor in preparation of victory." Germans Accused In Argentine Plot Santiago, Chile, Sept. 26. W) An alleged plot broken up by army action in Argentina Tuesday night was declared by the Socialist newspaper Critica today to have been a Nazi conspiracy to prevent American unity, involving a direct military blow at Chile. "The German general staff planned the form of attack," the newspaper charged, "and selected Wednesday, at 3 o'clock in the morning, as the date most favorabel for action."
