Former Marine Applies For Russ Citizenship MOSCOW UPI - Lee Harvey Oswald, a 20 year old former United States marine from Texas, today said he has applied to renounce his American citizenship and become a Soviet citizen for "purely political reasons." Oswald, of Ft. Worth, said in his room in the Metropole Hotel, "I will never return to the United States for any reason." The slender, unsmiling Oswald refused to give any other reasons for his decision to give up his American citizenship and live in the Soviet Union. Third One He would not say what he is planning to do here. He is the third American to make such a move in recent months. One of the other two later changed his mind and returned to the United States. "I cannot make any statements until after I receive my Soviet citizenship," Oswald said. "It might jeopardize my position--I mean the Soviet authorities might not want me to say anything, "I expect to hear from them within a few days." Oswald said he speaks Rus- sian. When asked if he had studied political in the United States economy, and said, "absolutely not." Otherwise Oswald, a nice looking young man, insisted he had nothing to say and edged a reporter toward the door. Confirms Story A United States embassy official confirmed that Oswald had contacted the embassy. He said he had advised Oswald to wait for the Soviet Union reply to Oswald's application for citizenship before handing away his United States passport. "Oswald said nothing would change his mind but he would let us know, of course,' the official said. An embassy consuiar official said Oswald had told him he arrived in Moscow October 15th, immediately after his release from the marine corps. He informed the embassy he had written a letter to the presidium of the Supreme Soviet the day after his arrival applying for Soviet citizenship.
