PORTLAND — James Roy Harmon, 60, died May 7 at Maine Medical Center. He was born on July 16, 1948, son of Athlena “Leet” Nelson and George Harmon and attended schools in Vermont. As a young man, he served in the Vietnam War. Subsequently, he worked for Carlton Winslow as a building superintendent for 17 years. He was a member of The Portland Fire Buff Box 61 and had a passion for collecting fire trucks and lighthouses. He was predeceased by his father, George Harmon, brothers Ozzie Nelson Jr., and Alton Harmon, and son-in-law Donald Williams. Surviving are his wife, Shirley (Beal) Harmon of Portland; mother, Athlena of Vermont; eight children, Patricia Howes and her companion Mike Jordan of Canton, Geneva Kemp and her companion Jimmy Libby of Monmouth, Lynn Williams of Livermore Falls, Richard M. Leet and his wife Theresa of Biddeford, Danny Leet and his companion Jackie Laflamme of Lewiston, and Roy Leet of York County; sisters, Shirley Croteau, Linda Jackson and her husband Larry, all of New Hampsire; Ruthy Harmon and Rosilee Thumbser, both of Vermont; brothers, William Harmon and Otis Nelson of Vermont; 23 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. Kelly, 93, died May 15 surrounded by family after a brief illness. She was born in Falmouth on Dec. 17, 1915, and later graduated from Scarborough High School in 1935.
