FAU's 100 Owls Soon Will Call The Campus Home FA U Burrowing Owl Sanctuary? BOCA RATON - A schedule of events at Florida Atlantic University (FAU) the rest of the month features a ceremony for designating the campus a burrowing owl sanctuary. The abundant burrowing owls on the campus 100 have been counted will be able to call FAU a permanent home April 23, when they will be placed under the official protection of FAU and the Audubon Society. The 11 a.m. ceremony is open to the public. Roger Miller, vice president for administrative affairs who started owl counts earlier this year, and Wesley Wilken. sanctuary chairman for the Royal Palm chapter of the Audubon Society, will dig holes for a sign denoting the sanctuary. Ron Willocks, president of the local chapter, will present Miller a certificate declaring the campus an Audubon sanctuary. According to Miller, FAU's burrowing owl population has prospered along with the university and the trend should be "preserved as a symbol of FAU's regard for ecology." The ceremony will be held on the grounds east of and directly opposite the theater entrance at the southeast corner of the campus. Also an April 23. a scheduled highlight of the month is a lecture by Vitaly Smirnov, a Russian representative to the United Nations. The talk on "Soviet-American Relations" will be in the FAU theater at 8:30 p.m. Admission is $2. Monday, a graduate recital by baritone Kenneth Williams is scheduled for the FAU theater at 8:30 p.m. Tenor Enrique Romero will hold his senior recital the next night, at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, in the theater. The public is invited to both recitals. For April 21, the campus calendar shows two concerts scheduled for the theater. At 3:30 p.m. the Broward Community College Chamber Choir concert will perform for the public. In the evening at 8:30 p.m., the Florida Atlantic Music Guild concert features Mildred and Gerald Snyder, duo-pianists.
