Hansell leads St. Lucie past Cards 8-3 By MIKE MELTON Special to The Palm Beach Post PORT ST. LUCIE - St. Lucie pitcher Greg Hansell led the Mets to an 8-3 victory over the St. Petersburg Cardinals Friday night at the St. Lucie County Sports Complex. Hansell, acquired from the Winter Haven Red Sox July 28, was one of five players on the list the New York Mets presented to the Boston Red Sox in a trade for Mike Marshall. He was 7-10 for Winter Haven and was 1-2 in his first three starts for St. Lucie. Hansell overcame a rough start to hold the Cardinals to two runs, allowing seven hits over seven innings. He walked three and struck out three. went said St. Lucie pitching "*Greg got stronger as the game coach Joel Horlen. "I like that. He's still a little inconsistent with his release, but his changeup's really improved. It's now his number two pitch." Hansell was pleased with his outing. "I had a rough start," he said. "But my hitters put me right back in the ballgame. That's something 1 didn't have earlier (at Winter Haven). Here, two runs isn't anything." Loy McBride and Alan Zinter were two reasons Hansell wasn't worried by a 2-0 deficit in the first inning. McBride had an RBI single and scored four runs and Zinter went 3-for-3 with three RBI. "I'm fortunate to be seeing the ball real well right now," said McBride, who is 14-for-41 (.341) FLORIDA STATE LEAGUE over the last 12 games. "I'm trying to keep a good attitude about the game. Being in the lineup every day helps, and it feels good to be healthy.' McBride has seen more playing time since D.J. Dozier was promoted to Class AA Jackson in the Texas League, and his injured hamstring apparently has healed. Zinter played his second game since going on the disabled list July 23 with a sore left wrist. "I'm happy to be back," said Zinter. "I did a lot of visualization while I was off, looking at my videotapes. I feel like I haven't missed a game. Batting left-handed I'm 100 percent, right-handed alSt. Lucie 8, St. Pete. 3 ST.
