ROBERT B. McKINNEY DIED COLO, IOWA, THANKSGIVING Robert B. McKinney, of Colo, Lowe, a native of Houston, Missouri, passed away at his home Thursday, November 23rd, 1944, at the age of 77 years, 8 months, and 4 days. He had been in failing health for several months, becoming bedfast the past week. His death was due to *alcers of the stomach. Mr. McKinney was born on a farm near Houston, Mo., March 19, 1867; a son of David and Isabel McKinney, pioneer settlers of South Missouri. He was married to Ida E. Smith December 25, 1892, at Houston, Mo. They would have been married 52 years this Christmas. Since moving to Iowa in 1922, they made their home in Marshall and Story counties. He is survived by his wife and nine children, five sons and four daughters. The sons are Virgil, of Colo; Vester, of Wichita, Kansas; Victor, of Nevada; Vernon and Roscoe, at home. The daughters are Mrs. C. A.Nagle, of Parsons, Kansas; Mrs. Frank Tucker, of Clemons, Mo.; Mr. T. L. Handsaker, of Colo; Glayds, who teaches in the Cedar Falls, Iowa, schools. All were present at the time of his passing. There are nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren They are Mrs. Frederick Berka, Colo; Mrs. James Lyle, Parsons, Kansas; Wayne, Naomi and Norma Jean McKinney, Colo; Carolyn and Keith McKinney, of Nevada; Patricia Handsaker, Colo; Kansas. grandchildren, Rose Darlene McKinney,, of Wichita, Mary and Jimmie Berka, of Colo. All were present except Wayne, who is with the Air Troop Transport Service in England. He also leaves three sisters and two brothers, Mrs. James Shepherd, of Bartlesville, Oklahoma; Mrs. Nancy Godfrey, of Parsons, Kansas; Mrs. J. A. Wheeler, Mountain Grove, Mo.; Jake McKinney, of Houston, Mo.; Andy McKinney, Cabool, Mo. Mr. McKinney was a man of high character; one who was always ready and willing to help those in need. His smile of greeting and handshake to his many friends always impressed them as the smile from the heart and a welcome in the home. Many memories will be recalled of his many kind and friendly interests by the family, other relatives and friends. During his illness his family with loving hands administered to his every need. He was very patient during his suffering and expressed his feeling of gratefulness many times to the family. Throughout Mr. McKinney's life he was always very active in civic affairs, both in Missouri and Iowa. He has made many friends throughout Story county as a member of the Democratic Central Committee, upon which he served until his health failed. Mr. McKinney, Bob as he was known by his many friends, will be missed, not only by his wife and children, but by a great host of friends, who have known him throughout the many years. Funeral services were held at the Colo Methodist church on Saturday afternoon, November 25, at 2:30, following a prayer service held at the home at 2 o'clock. The service was conducted by Rev. A. F. Schneck, and Rev. Manning. Music was furnished by Charles Lehman, John Lounsberry, Mrs. Charles Yeager, Mrs. Lloyd Lounsberry, accompanied by Mrs. Brinkman. The floral tributes, which were many and beautiful, a silent tribute to the love and respect in which the deceased was held, surrounded the bier. They were arranged by Mrs. Clyde Knudson Mrs. John Donnelly and Mrs. Claude Dickinson. The casket bearers were Floyd Oswalt, Clarence Stark, Ross White, Clyde Knudson, Frank Rowden and Claude Dickinson. Burial being in Colo cemetery in charge of Brouhard Funeral Home.
