Library Gets Ancient Gold Mourning Ring LANCASTER, Mass. -A gold mourning ring dating from Colonial times which was found in a field 64 years ago has been given to the town library by Daniel H. Bemis of Lakeview, Ore., a former Lancaster resident. Bemis sent the ring to the library and said it had been turned up by a plow in 1883. It is a solid gold band with a black channel, similar to the rings given in Colonial times to commemorate the death of a distinguished man. The inscription reads, "Sir Wm. Pepperell, Bart., O. B., July 1759, AET 63." Pepperell was commander of the British army which captured Louisburg, N. S., from the French.
