Rye native is killed in car crash FAIRFIELD, Conn. (AP) - John F.X. Martin, 46, a popular broadcaster in the Stamford area and a Rye native, was killed in a one-car accident on the Connecticut Turnpike here early this morning., Police said Martin was driv. ting a car that went out of control in the eastbound lanes of the turnpike t 19, hit a median divider and flipped over it, landing in the westbound lane. The accident occurred about 4 a.m. Martin lived in Stratford. He had been with WSTC radio station in Stamford for the past eight years where he hosted "big band" and country music shows. He had received several writeups in the show business publication "Variety"* for his knowledge "Swing Era." Martin began his broadcasting career in 1948 with the now-defunct WLIZ in Bridgeport. Later he joined stations in Cleveland, Ohio and Detroit, Mich., and in 1955 went to' WLNA in Peekskill, N.Y. He also had worked at WICC in Bridgeport and WNHC in New Haven. He is survived by his widow, the former Monique Mueller; two daughters, Danielle and Michelle; his, father, John E. Martin, owner of John E. Martin Insurance of Rye; a brother, Robert of Rye; i and three sisters, Mrs. Irene Wall of Rye, Mrs. Mary Dooling of Plymouth' Meeting, Pa., and Mrs. Sally Dexter. of Plymouth, Mich.
