Nields Dies; Twice Sought Congress Post BENJAMIN NIELDS MI Benjamin Nields III, forty eight, White Plains attorney and Republican figure in the county, died unexpected yesterday afterncon at his home on Ridge Rye. Nields, with offices at 31 Mamaroneck Ave., was assistant chairman of the National President Club in 1948. His politi- cal career started in 1947 he ran unsuccessfully as an independent for mayor of Rye. In 1954, Nields lost a bid for the Republican congressional nomination in the 26th District. He lost again two years later, running as an insurgent. Nields was a member of the Rye Planning Commission, a vice president of* -the White Plains Chamber of Commerce and in| and 1953 chairman of the Westchester Cancer Crusade. He chairman of the Rye March of Dimes Campaign in 1955 and served as commander of Rye Post 128 of the American Legion. A graduate of Yale and versity of Virginia Law "School, Mr. Nields, in World War II, was a trial judge advocate in the Air Force and attained the rank of captain. He was a member of the New York State and Westchester County Bar Associations, the Yale Club of New York City and the Apawamis Club and the Manursing Island Club, both in Rye. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Sheila Moore Nields and a son, Benjamin Nields IV, both of the home address; his mother, Mrs. Hazel Whitelaw Nields of Milton Rd.: a sister, Mrs. Barbara Stearns, and two brothers, John
