Police renew probe in 1978 disappearance JERICHO (AP) - The Vermont State Police searched a Jericho home on Monday for clues in the disappearance 18 years ago of a mother and her 5-year-old daughter. Federal, state and local authorities from five states, including canine teams from three New England states, searched the former home of Grace M. Reapp, 32, and her daughter, Grace Noel Reapp, 5. There has been no sign of the two since June 1978 and the case is being treated as a homicide, police said. They were reported missing June 7, 1978 by Michael Reapp, 32, husband and father respectively of the two people. He said he came home from his job as an air traffic controller at Burlington International Airport and discovered them missing. Police will not say if Michael Reapp is considered a suspect in the case. Two sons were at the Jericho Elementary School the day their mother and sister disappeared, officials said. Police have searched the grounds around the house twice before but on Monday they excavated inside the house. With new technology and new investigation perspective were going back to the house where they were last known to have lived, said State Police Detective Lt. James Dimmick. The authorities owe it to the victim and the victims family to do everything we can. We try to never let an open case go unresolved, Dimmick said. Dimmick urged anyone with information concerning the missing people or the circumstances of their disappearance to call state police at 878-7111. Grace Reapp and her daughter appeared to vanish. Authorities never found any trace of her using checks, credit cards or other items that would indicate she was living elsewhere. Dimmick said the current property owner had no connection with the Reapps and had cooperated fully with police. Detective Sgt. Gerald Char-boneau was assigned a few years ago to take a new look at the case.
