COLORED REGIMENT CITED BY FRENCH Col Hayward and All His Men Honored NEW YORK, Nov 29-Col William Hayward, commander of the 365th Infantry, formerly the 15th Regiment, New York National Guard, was wounded in the Champagne offensive last September and with his regiment has been cited for the Croix de Guerre for gallantry, according to information received here tonight. The old 15th was the only negro regiment in the State Guard. Col Hayward, though wounded, inEisted on leading men into battie, displaying marked gallantry, the citation says. He was formerly secretary of the Republican National Committee and WAS a Public Service Commissioner for this district until he entered the army.
