Man accused in killing was home parents say WATERVILLE (AP) - The parents of a Waterville man charged with killing a Skowhegan woman say their son could not have committed the crime because he was at home with them at the time he allegedly met the victim at a local bar Gerald Goodale 29 was charged last Tuesday in the Aug 9 murder of Geraldine Ann Finn who disappeared from a nightclub and was found strangled several days later Two friends who were with Finn when she allegedly met Goodale identified him as the man she left the bar with police have said But Gooaale’s parents James and Juanita Goodale say their son was at home waiting for a telephone call at the time the witnesses said he met Finn and her friends The three were at Pete and Larry’s a Waterville bar at around 8:15 pm when they noticed a man in a blue truck circling the building and motioning to them to come outside police said The three women went out to the man but found he was sitting nude in the truck and they left him The man whom Finn’s friends later identified as Goodale then dressed and met the women in the lounge police say Goodale’s parents said he was with them until 9: 15 pm then left to go “mud running” on some nearby dirt roads They say Goodale’s arrest was the “Nothing adds up It’s not his character It’s a different person’’ — James Goodale father result of mistaken identity “Nothing adds up It’s not his character” said James Goodale in a weekend newspaper interview “It’s a different person” Waterville police remain unmoved however “I’m convinced we have the right guy” said Waterville police Detective Joseph Massey “I’m confident we have obtained overwhelming evidence to suggest that he murdered Geraldine Finn” Police also have refused to rule out the possibility that Goodale was involved in the death of Janet Brochu 20 who disappeared from another local bar early this year Her body was found in March about 10 weeks after she disappeared in the Sebas-ticook River Police reports show Brochu was seen with Goodale the night she disappeared He admitted he saw Brochu the night she disappeared Juanita Goodale said but only in the parking lot of the bar
