SARRATT, William WILLIAM RAY SARRAT T William Ray Sarratt, age 78, of Lilburn, retired owner of W. Ray Sarratt, Inc., General Contractor, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, November 23, 2008. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Charlcie Holmes Sarratt; daughter Sherrie and husband Rev. Lance Fancher of Vero Beach, FL; son Rev. Mike A. and wife Linda Sarratt of Watkinsville, GA; two grandsons, Jonathan Sarratt of Watkinsville and Barron Fancher and wife Maria of Portsmouth, VA; brothers, Bob Sarratt of Norcross, Jack Sarratt of Lilburn, and Ronnie Sarratt of Louisville, KY; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, William A. and Jennie Mae Sarratt and his sister, Betty Jones. Mr. Sarratt was very active for many years at the Atlanta Baptist Tabernacle where he served as deacon, Sunday School teacher, many committees and as a Trustee. In the past several years, he has been a member of the First Baptist Church of Lilburn. He taught the Men's Bible Class, was a deacon, and was instrumental in rebuilding the church sanctuary, church fellowship hall, and activities building. Ray enjoyed mission trips worldwide, where he participated in church-building. Some of his favorite places to build included Ecuador, Uruguay, Alaska, Cordova, and Moldova. His greatest joy was serving the Lord. He was a member of the Gwinnett Metro Baptist Association where he served as Mission Coordinator. He served several terms as Trustee on the North American Mission Board. Ray served on the Board of Regents of Luther Rice Seminary and helped in the construction of a classroom building. Mr. Sarratt graduated from O'Keefe High School in Atlanta. He attended West Georgia College in Carrollton and then Georgia Tech. He graduated from Tech in 1955 with a B.S. degree in Architecture and played football for Coach Bobby Dodd. He received an honorary Doctor of Human Letters from Luther Rice Seminary. Mr. Sarratt was a veteran. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps with the VMF 351 Marine Fighter Squadron in Korea. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday November 26, 2008 at the First Baptist Church of Lilburn. Interment will follow in Floral Hills Memory Gardens, Tucker. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions would be welcomed to the Luther Rice Seminary Scholarship Fund, attention Student Accounts, 3038 Evans Mill Road, Lithonia, GA 30038 or to the charity of your choice. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 2:00 - 4:00 and from 6:08:00 PM at Bill Head Funeral Homes and Crematory, Lilburn/Tucker Chapel. (770) 564-2726
