This month, Lipsett's Footwear closed its doors after 67 years in business. In 1914 Thomas Lipsett began his career as a footwear apprentice in Sligo, Ireland, coming to Canada and settling in Winnipeg. In 1936 he moved to Saskatoon where he resided until his death in 1987. He opened his first two stores on 20th Street West followed by two more on 33rd St. West. Tom's daughter Florence Summach joined her father in business in 1940, followed by husband Harold Summach in 1949. Harold passed away in March of 2003 after a brief illness. For 6 1/2 decades friends & customers have visited Lipsett's. At this time Florence wishes to thank these many people for generations of loyal patronage. Harold and Florence Summach have provided many years of faithful service to Saskatoon. The memories are rich and the experiences plentiful. The story of Lipsett's and Saskatoon will continue as a new Lipsett's Shoes will open August 1 at 96A 33rd St. E.
