(AP) - A Baltimore man arrested last week in Reno has been charged with the slaying of ; two Baltimore women and the rape of a third. : Charles William Davis, 29, is being held without bail. ; Maryland authorities arrested him in Reno where he was working as an ambulance driver. : Police also arrested a woman companion, whom they ' found deeping in the couple's car near the ambulance company. But they later released Diane Hope Crosby, 22, ' also of Baltimore without charges. ' .Police said Davis had worked for Aids about a week. He was a dispatcher and attendant, police said. .Two Maryland state troopers and a state attorney flew to Reno Thursday. They flew back to Maryland Saturday after Davis waived extradition. Police spokesman Bill Clark said Davis allegedly was liQked to the slayings through a CB radio which had been purchased with a credit card stolen from the rape victim. The radio was discovered during a recent traffic stop, and the tracing took some time. Clark said the similarities between the rape and the sexual assault of one of the murdered women led to the arrest. Kathleen Cook, daughter-in-law of a state police lieutenant colonel, was slain Dec. 31, 1975. Her killing prompted a massive manhunt. Peggy Pumpian was the second victim, killed Aug. 24, 1976. Miss Cook was shot three times after being lured from a west Baltimore night club. Miss Pumpian was assaulted and slain in her auto, which had run out of gas on a Maryland highway.
