FLAMES THREATEN HAMILTON HALL Fire came; near destroying Hamilton hall,- at Thirteenth and Jefferson Sunday afternoon, and had it not been for the prompt response of the fire department and Its rapid work after its arrival, the old historic building would probably be in ruins. It is believed that the blaze started from an overheated furnace in the basement of the building, and a defective hot air conducting pipe leading to the floor of the First Christian Church, which religious -body ocupies the first story as a place of worship. The fire was discovered about 1:30 o'clock, when volumes of smoke were seen pouring from the structure. When the firemen arrived they found the church filled with smoke and the floor burning briskly on the underside, next to the hot-air pipe. The damage by fire did i not amount to much, but on account 'of damage done by water and smoke, the loss vrll be about $100. 1 '
