Waukegan Bars Shoe Store X-Rays WAUKEGAN, Ill. (AP) Shoe fluoroscopes used in at least five Waukegan stores as an aid to fitting customers have been banned by city ordinance. The City Council passed the ordinance Monday night, following (the lead of Mrs. Ann Christensen, its only woman member, Mrs. Christensen's proposal contained documented accounts of the x-ray device's potential danger in the hands of untrained operators as reported by the International Congress on Radiation. She called for its immediate removal from shoe' stores. A spokesman for the American College of Radiology in Chicago said the shoe fluoroscope has long been identified as a possible health hazard, but that the Waukegan ban "probably is the first step toward needed legislation that would bar its use in Illinois."
