- Organized eight years ago the Kenosha Shoreliners have piled up a long line of victories in their frequent public appearances Having passed through Class C and Class B they are "now on the threshold of moving into "A” Class v—‘ : Edward Wierdnski organized the Shoreliners in July of 1957 Tjiey made their first appear ance the following year add eiv tered field competition in 1959 in what would now be considered Class C Two years later they changed their age limits to the present 13to-21 years bought new uniforms and competed in Class B' This past season the corps Corps Digest Magazine is the director and'music is arranged and 21 on the field It -had a ggpgciaiiy tor the Shoreliners sine-man drum line and a 22- Truman Crawford music ar-girl color guard - ranger and director of the US : Travel Weekends Airforce Drum and Bugle Corps Between Memorial Day and or “ i3 at present marched 28 hour on tte 8treet Labor Day the corps made an appearance every weekend and traveled extensively through Wisconsin and Illinois The honors it won in recent years have been many They include: Junior American Legion State Championship 1961 and 1964 runnerup in 1962 and ’63 This year entering American Legion Open competition for the first time the Shoreliners finished third They won the Bratwurst Day festival championship in Sheboygan in 1961 and again in 1962 took class B Badgerland Standstill Contest in 1961 The same year they were Kenosha Music Roundup Parade Champions Drum Corps Corner This year they were Class B field contest champions in Ra- cine They also entered many open and Class A shows this year placing very high and taking first in their class several times In 1965 the Shoreliners sponsored the first annual Music Under the Stars program in Ke- nosha a Junior-Invitational contest which featured the Midwest’s top 10 junior groups Shoreliners are uniformed in fee blue and black Archer-Ep-ler type uniforms Membership in their group is open to any Kenosha boy or girl between the ages of 13 and 2L Lawrence Grabowski editor of Drum music director of the National Champion Chicago Royal Airs Instructors listed Drill instructors for the past season were Fred Hoppe and Frank Sosnowski Jr drum instructors Ronald Beschke and Sosnowski bugle instructor Richard Bablno and color guard instructor Boimle Franzen ‘ Frank Petricek was corps drum major and Bonnie Franzen the color guard sergeant Hie Shoreliners are incorporated as a nonprofit organization and governed by a board of directors They are sponsored by Veterans of Foreign Wars Junker Ball Post 1865 Next week: Shoreliner Cadets 7 -trapeze the had the but
