I 1A/O I VrU DETROIT (AP) -- Two prisoners waiting to be transferred back to the Wayne County Jail overpowered and pistol-whipped their guard and escaped from D e t r o i t Recorder's Wednesday. Rubin Earl Cargile, 31, a convicted robber and Herman Lamont Berry, 24, an escapee from Jackson State Prison, were in a cellblock adjacent to Judge Joseph Gillis' courtroom when they seized police officer Jack Aliotta, who was arranging their transfer. The other officer assigned to the security detail was not in the area, and all other court personnel were at lunch. The two men hailed a cab and directed the driver at gunpoint to a northwest Detroit neighborhood. Police later combed the area with dogs for three hours. Aliotta was treated for minor head injuries at Detroit General Hospital and released.
