Anderson Recital Is Attended by 75,000| WASHINGTON, April 10. (U.P.)Marian Anderson, Negro contralto, made her Washington debut Sunday at an open air recital on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial, before an audience of 75,000. Miss Anderson attracted nationwide attention recently when the Daughters of the American Revolution refused her permission to appear at Constitution hall. Secretary of Interior Harold Ickes granted Miss Anderson permission to sing and personally introduced her Sunday. The program was broadcast on a a national hookup. Miss Anderson probably will be included among artists appearing on a program of distinctive American music to be presented during the visit of King George and Queen Elizabeth to the White House, Mrs. Franklin D. Roosevelt said today. The president's wife said plans for the program were being made now. Mrs. Roosevelt withdrew from the daughters of the American Revolution when that organization opposed Miss Anderson's appearance in Washington.
