Shave had two hits in three at-bats with two runs batted in. "I was just happy to get the opportunity to play and make the most of it," Shave said. After Dean Palmer walked, Shave dropped a sacrifice bunt and pitcher Dennis Cook slipped while fielding it, allowing Shave to beat it out for a hit. Shave made it 3-1 in the third with a run-scoring single, smacking a ground ball through the right side that scored Juan Gonzalez from second. Right fielder Glenallen Hill was playing shallow, but third base coach Dave Oliver, with two outs and the slumping Benji Gil on deck, played it aggressively and Gonzalez made it standing up when Hill made a horrible three-hop throw to the plate.
