SUNDAY NEWS, DECEMBER 29, 1935 Girl Athlete, Her Sex Changed, in Man's Job Prague, Czechoslovakia, Dec. 28 (U.P.),- -Zdenka Koubkova, 24, who won athletic fame as a girl, has had her sex changed and now is working as a man, the Prager Abend Zeitung said today. Koubkova changed her name to the masculine form, Zdenek Koubek, her lawyer said, adding that he had registered the transformation with the bureau of vital statistics with necessary medical certificates. The lawyer stated that the description of sex on Koubek's original birth certificate also had been altered. Operation Performed. The change in sex may have been due to an operation supposedly performed just before Christmas, the lawyer said. The changed person appeared for work the following day, dressed in masculine clothing and in excellent spirits. An interesting problem has been raised by Koubek's new sex. As he is over 21, he may have to make up his regular term of military service. Military authorities are studying the case and attempting to reach a decision. Set 800-Meter Record. Koubek under his former sex as Fraulein Koubkova established world's record in the women's Olympiad in London last year, making the 800-meter run in 2 minutes 12 4-10 seconds. She did not compete in sports this year and resigned from the Czech Women's Amateur Athletic Federation without giving any reason.
