Entertainment Herald-Zritung Friday, June 21,1985 All there 'Cosby' leads NBC romp in weekly Nielsen ratings LOS ANGELES (AP) NBC's telecast of an extra Bill Cosby show for Father's Day bought the show two Top 10 spots for the week ended June 16 as the network captured its seventh Nielsens victory in eight weeks. In ail, NBC took nine shows in the Top 10, with the regular Thursday "The Cosby Show" at No. 1 and the Father's Day show on Sunday in ninth place. Second-place CBS" only entry was "Trapper John, M.D.," in a three-way tie for sixth place. Third-place ABC was squeezed out of the Top 10 and had only two shows in.the next 10.

Cosby, who has pulled all of NBC's Thursday shows except "Hill Street Blues" into the Top 10, also had a beneficial effect on NBC's lineup of Father's Day specials. All of NBC's Sunday prime-time shows had a Father's Day theme. NBC won the ratings, its fourth straight week, with a network average of 13.6 in the A.C. Nielsen Co. survey.

CBS was second with 12.4 and ABC was third with 10.0. The networks say this means that in an average prime-time minute 13.6 percent of the audience was tuned to NBC. CBS' "Mickey SpiUane's Mike Hammer" is rising in the ratings. This past week it was in 21st place. The week before it was 40th.

The show went out of production when its star, Stacy Reach, served a term in an English prison for smuggling cocaine. CBS brought back the reruns to see if they did well enough in the ratings to merit a renewal for later in the 1985-86 season. CBS was first in the evening news category, NBC second and ABC third. The ratings: CBS 11.1, NBC 9.8, ABC 9.5. Here are the Top 10 rated televisions programs as compiled by the A.C.

Newsmakers Sicilian defends gift to Charles PALERMO, Sicily (AP) The gift of a year-old vase to Britain's Prince Charles has been defended by a Sicilian political leader who is under fire for handing it over.

Rino Nicolosi, president of the Sicilian regional government, said Wednesday that the vase, dug up at an archaeological site, came from a private collection. Acting on behalf of the region, Nicolosi gave the vase to the prince last month when he visited Italy with Princess Diana. Before deciding on the gift, Nicolosi said, officials consulted with historical authorities to determine what he termed "an absence of constraints." Three Communist members of the Italian Senate have questioned the propriety of giving an art object of historical value to a foreign guest. Robert D. Orr was introduced to the U.S. Jaycees on Wednesday as Alabama's chief executive. Convention delegations from both states stood up and cheered. Cosby, Brenner to lead benefit PHILADELPHIA (AP) Comedians Bill Cosby and David Brenner will headline a benefit concert for the 270 people left homeless by the fire that engulfed a neighborhood when police tried to evict the MOVE radical group. Rockers Robert Hazzard and the Heroes also will perform at the show July 2 at the seat Robin Hood Dell East amphitheater, promoter Toni Nash said Wednesday. The event's chairmen are basketball star Julius Erving of the Philadelphia 76ers and tenor saxophonist Grover Washington Jr.

Washington and his band, Pieces of a Dream, will be unable to perform because of a previous engagement, Nash said. Elton John suing former publisher LONDON (AP) Elton John has earned more than $19 million in royalties alone in the 18 years since he signed with music publisher Dick James, a music company lawyer said in the rock star's suit against James. John, 38, claims James exercised undue influence in getting John to sign an unfair contract when he was an unknown 20-year-old. James denies it. John's lyric writer Bernie Taupin, who also is suing James, made $1,380,858, the court was told Wednesday.

VALERIE LOWRANCE Lowrancfe competing for Jr. Miss Texas Junior Miss Valerie Lowrance is in Mobile, this week competing for the national title and $25,000 in scholarships. Finals for the competition are today at 7 p.m., televised on CBS. In Tuesday's preliminary competition, Lowrance was selected to receive the scholarstic achievement award. Lowrance is the daughter of Mr.

and Mrs. V.J. Lowrance of Seguin. She graduated valedictorian from Seguin High School in May. She was voted by her classmates as "Best All Around." She also won the Daughters of the American Revolution Good Citizenship Award; homecoming queen; all-district, region, area and state choir; and the lead role in "Oklahoma." She was named Miss Seguin High School.
