12 The Aug. 20, 1982 'Filthy Rich' tops the ratings LOS ANGELES (AP) The CBS limited series "Filthy Rich," about a Tennessee land baron's relatives and their schemes to get his inheritance, won first place in television's ratings race for the week ending Aug. 15, figures from the A.C. Nielsen Co. show.

CBS, with six shows in the Top 10, won the prime-tune competition for the fourth week in a row, with an average rating of 13.3, Nielsen said, compared with 12.8 for ABC and 11.2 for NBC. The networks say that means in an average minute of prime-time during the week, 13.3 percent of the nation's homes with television were watching CBS. The four-episode "Filthy Rich" stars Slim Pickens as the late "Big Guy" Beck, who left a videotaped will requiring his snobbish heirs to perform a number of humbling tasks, such as taking in some poor relations and making them feel at home. Delta Burke, Dixie Carter, and Charles Frank also star in the series, which had an average rating of 24.2. Nielsen says mat means in an average minute of the program, 24.2 percent of the country's TV-equipped homes were watching the show.

"The Renegades," a two- hour movie from ABC and a failed pilot, was sixth in the ratings. It was about six young men and a woman, all from different ethnic backgrounds and all in trouble with the law who are asked by the police to go underground to solve a crime. ABC had four shows in the Top 10, while NBC's highest- ranked show was "Quincy," in 12th place. NBC also had four of the week's five lowest-rated shows, "One of the "Here's a special, "The Electric and "NBC Reports: Japan vs. U.S.A." ABC had the fifth, "ABC News Closeup: Swords, Plowshares and Politics."
