TUISDAY, NOVIMiER 9. 1954 PAGE FIVI Proxmire Lists $12,402 Expense MADISON Uf WiUiam Proxmire, of Blooming Grove, Democratic nominee for governor, reported to the secretary of state Monday that he and his personal campaign committee had spent $12,402 during the campaign which ended last Tuesday. Gov. Walter Kohler, Republican, who had defeated Proxmire in a close race, reported expenditures for the same period of $960.

During the primary Proxmire spent $3,165 and his personal committee $6,369, and during the general election from Sept. 14 Proxmire said he spent $1,284 and his committee $1,584. State Sen. Gaylord Nelson, Madison Democrat, who was defeated by Rep. Glenn Davis, Waukesha Republican, reported personal expenditures of $1,705 and receipts of while Davis reported receipts of $360 and expenditures of $425.

Following are other reports filed: Warren Smith, Milwaukee Republican, state treasurer, received nothing, spent $733; Warren Knowles, New Richmond, Republican, lieutenant governor, received $240, spent $206; Marguerite Benson, Milwaukee Democrat, secretary of state, spent $272; received $269, Frank Nikolay, Abbotsford Democrat, attorney general, received $216, spent $1,229. Edwin Larkin, Eau Claire Democrat, lieutenant governor, received $237, spent $651; Larkin for Lieutenant Governor Club, received -S235, spent $235; Kenosha Proxmire for governor. The Council convened and was called to order by Mayor Brooks Dunwiddie. Present at roll call were: Aldermen Henning, Galli, Schindler, Matzke, Beckman and Trumpy. Aldermen Elmer and Laeser were absent.

The minutes of the last regular meeting were read and approved. Communication from Don Cleveland and Herman Hoesly making application for amusement license was read and referred to the license committee. "Thank You" card from Roger Klrner was read and ordered Communication from E. O. Evans, school superintendent, announcing American Education Week was read and ordered filed.

Communication from Harold Whitehead et al requesting street light at the corner of 26th avenue and 15th street was read and referred to the Water and Lights committee. Communication from Dearth Motor Sales et al. asking for a street light at the intersection of 6th avenue and Highway 11 was read and referred to the Water and Lights committee. Communication and report from the Key to the City Club was read and ordered filed. Application for operator's license by Mrs.

Edna Chambers. Argyle Road, was read and referred to the License committee. Mayor Dunwiddie reported that the by-pass route as originally outlined was not accepted.

Further study will be made. Mayor Dunwiddie stated the Stoidt property had now been acquired, and suggested that all members of the Council inspect the building to determine to what use it could be put. At this time the hearing was held on the proposed ordinance for one way traffic in alleys adjacent to the square. There was no opposition. R.

RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING STOP SIGNS Be it resolved by the Common Council of the city of Monroe on recommendation of the Police and Safety Committee that stop signs be placed at the following intersections of avenues with streets: Intersection of 19th avenue with 10th street.

Intersection of 18th avenue with 10th street from the north. Intersection of 14th avenue with 10th street. Intersection of 19th avenue with llth street. Intersection of 18th avenue with llth street. Intersection of 15th avenue with llth street.

Intersection of 14th avenue with llth street. Dated Nov. 3, 1954. Offered by the Police and Safety the claims as presented and read be allowed and paid under suspension of the rules. The motion was seconded by Alderman Galli.

The question was submitted to roll call vote, and imously. Alderman Matzke carried unan- offered for second reading the following ordi nance, and moved its adoption. ORDINANCE ESTABLISHING ONE-WAY STREETS The Common Council of the city of Monroe do ordain as follows: Section 1. Upon the following streets and portions of streets in the city of Monroe, Wisconsin, vehicular traffic shall move only as hereinafter set forth: In a westerly direction on 10th street from 20th avenue to 17th avenue; from 16th avenue to 13th avenue; In an easterly direction on llth street from 13th avenue to 16th avenue; from 17th avenue to 20th avenue. Section 2.

This ordinance shall be a part of section 10:49, of the Monroe Municipal Code entitled "One Way Streets and Alleys," and shall be in force and effect from and after its passage and official publication. Floyd Matzke, Herman L. Schindler, Alfred Henning. The motion was seconded by Alderman Henning. On voice vote, the motion carried unanimously.

Alderman Beckman offered the following resolution granting operator's license, and moved its adoption. RESOLUTION GRANTING OPERATORS' LICENSE Be it resolved by the Common Council of the city of Monroe on recommendation of the license committee that the following application for operators' license be granted for the license year ending June 30, 1955. Offered by the License Committee. William F. Beckman, G. Fred Galli, Floyd Matzke. The motion was seconded by Alderman Galli.

On voice vote, the motion carried unanimously. Alderman Henning offered the following resolution authorizing tion. RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING STRRET LIGHTS Be it resolved by the Common Council of the city of Monroe, on recommendation of the Water and Lights Committee that street lights be installed at the following sections: 13th street and 28th avenue. Highway 11 and 6th avenue. That the present light on Highway 11, near 6th avenue, be moved east to the intersection of Highway 11 and 7th avenue.

City attorney read the list of delinquent personal property taxes. Mayor Dunwiddie reported an inquiry had been made as to whether the city would consider the sale of the former Earth property. The matter was referred to the Finance and Taxation and Public Property committees. There being no further business, the Council by motion made, seconded and carried adjourned. F.
