Othman I'Bltsd Press HUwood Correspondent HOLLYWOOD, Aug. 24 This story concerns the case of the noisy daisies, or why I think this would be a better world if more women copied Hedy Lamarr on the care and culture of fingernails. The dairies were making an awful rackft. The boys had to silence them before movie-making could proceed, and that fcave me the chance to talk to Miss Lamarr. She talked.

I looked and I gueas I'll never be one of those first class reporters who can keep his mind on his work. I have some vague idea that he dUotusing the International Mtuatlon and her hop a for continuing peace, but that's only a fturmlae. I don't think I uaa listening becauoe I wan too busy looking, and If you think you can do better, drop around any time on stage 14 at RKO, where a snow storm rages daily from 8 a. ni. until 6 p.

with hour off for lunch. This Miss Lamarr is about thi prettiest girl there is. She's playing with George Brent and Paul Lukas and others in "Experiment Perilous," and she's wearing old-fashioned, T900 clothes for the first time in her picture career. (You may remember once she wore no clothes at all. but that's past and if I were a gent.

I'd not be reminding her of It now.) Mind Off Work Her dress, skin tight from the waist to where it stopped far short of the neck, and full as if from numerous petticoats below the red satin belt, was one of those costumes designed to take any newspaper man's mind off his business. Or any man's, except possibly a movie maker's. Director Jacques Tourneur, Cameraman Tony Guadio, lads like that, they acted as If the Lamarr were only a female. They were aophisticates. They weren't even goggle-eyed.

And I'd better start from the beginning with those daisies, which the script called for Actor George Neise to present to Miss Lamarr. He had a bunch of phoney paper daisies, because daisies simply don't grow In Southern California. These daisies rustled so much the sound department couldn't hear Misa Lamarr high. The boys rushed out for daisy silencers, consisting of ferns to separate each paper blossom, and that's how I got to spend a half hour staring at one of the most beautiful women In the world. Sh looked like she'd Jut fin ished scrubbing her ears.

She'd either had a good night's sleep, or varnished her eyeballs be-rause I never did such shiny eves. Blue, they were. Her skin was smootn and so, I think, was she. She did her dead-levelest to keep up a conversation about the art of the cinema, the state of the world nd the knack of speaking English without an accent. If ahe'd only worn a mask and overcoat.

I probably could have recalled what she said. I remember wondering how she breathed in a dress so tight and I have an idea she said she didn't mind how tight it was. so long as It was becoming. I was looking now at her hands. No Red Paint She positively does not wear fire engine paint on her fingernails.

Her fingernails are exactly th wsv nature made 'em. All she does Is wash 'em and If Hedy Lamarr can be glamour girl number one without Technicolor claws, then whv should you dip the ends nf vour flneers in imitation blood? And you? And you? ThU Is a question I'm going to take up with my own bride, who already has blue eyes. If I have any luck there, I'll start a movement. Somebody's got to make this world a better place and It may as well be me and, of course. Miss Lamarr.
