(AP) -Bob Barker won his fight against furs Tuesday when Miss USA pageant officials agreed to clothe the contestants in fake mink and ermine rather than have their host walk out of the nationally televised finals. Barker, an animal rights activist, and George Honchar, head of the pageant, announced at a news conference after the dress rehearsal that Barker was staying. "I am tremendously happy, tremendously happy," Barker said.

"Ultimately, I had no doubt Bob would have stuck by his (anti-fur) commitment and maybe we would have had a surprise host," Honchar said. Barker had taken part in the rehearsal on the understanding that the women selected at random to portray the 10 semifinalists would wear cloth coats and in one case a western jacket. He said he and Barker reached an agreement and the pageant was able to find simulated furs at an Albuquerque department store that were suitable for on-camera use. Earlier, pageant officials had said they were bound by commitments to use furs provided by a furrier, but that problem apparently was resolved. Honchar said the CBS television audience would be told the furs were fake.

"I think it would be hypocritical of me to appear if the furs are used." CBS officials required a stand-in be prepared, said Neal. Michael Young, master of ceremonies of the Miss Teen USA Pageant and host of the syndicated television shows "Kids Are People Too" and "Putting On The Kids," has been Barker's understudy. Barker is host of the nationally syndicated television game show "The Price Is Right." Pageant co-host Mary Frann plays Bob Ne-whart's wife on his CBS-TV comedy series. The 52 contestants, ages 17 to 24, included a representative from every state and the District of Columbia, as well as the reigning Miss Teen USA. The competition, judged by an 11-member panel of celebrities, involved evening gown and swimsuit competition and interviews.

HUSBANPS ALWAYS WANNA KNOW ABOUT THE BAT Horoscope By Bernice Bede Osol Your Birthday Wednesday, Feb. 18, 1987 Favorable changes are likely in the year ahead where your finances are concerned.

They may not appear to be too lucrative at first, but as time unfolds, you'll appreciate their magnitude. AQUARIUS (Jan. 20-Feb. 19) A good idea should not be ignored today just because it didn't originate with you. Favorable results are far more important than authorship.

PISCES (Feb. 20-March 20) Don't be too extravagant with your resources today. Remember, it's a lot easier to take it out of the bank than it is to put it back in. ARIES (March 21-April 19) You can achieve your ends today if you are patient and tolerant when you deal with key people on a one-to-one basis. Make them feel important and respected.

TAURUS (April 20-May 20) This can be a productive day for you, provided you are persistent. If you run into resistance, throttle up, not down. GEMINI (May 21-June 20) Opportunities that are available for you today will lose some of their dynamics if you don't follow through on them instantly. Don't straddle the fence. CANCER (June 21-July 22) In an important career situation today, have a backup plan ready just in case your first one fizzles out.

If you're prepared, you'll succeed. LEO (July 23-Aug. 22) Just because a friend isn't in total accord with you today doesn't mean he or she is your enemy. Cool down and look for the wisdom in his or her viewpoint. VIRGO (Aug.

23-Sept. 22) If you behave too selfishly with others today, they're going to be reluctant about getting involved with you in the future. Take a little, give a little. LIBRA (Sept. 23-Oct.

23) You may have to deal with someone today who is unreasonable and gruff. This person can be turned into an ally if you treat him or her the opposite way he or she treats you. SCORPIO (Oct. 24-Nov. 22) If you have to work in close conjunction today with someone who does things in a hasty, careless manner, be watchful so he or she doesn't foul up your efforts as well SAGITTARIUS (Nov.

23-Dec. 21) Keep your priorities in proper order today. Make it a point to put the productive first and the pleasurable last. CAPRICORN (Dec. 22-Jan.

19) Instead of finding challenging situations intimidating today, you are more likely to have your resolve strengthened by them. When the going gets tough the tough get going. i -jy rsr -i X1-!
