Rate Hike Request Set Railroads to Seek Another 8 Per Cent Freight Rate Increase CHICAGO, Sept. 24. UP) The nation's railroads announced Thursday they would seek another 8 per cent increase in freight rates. The decision was annoulced by traffic executives of the railroads after a series of conferences here H. Dana, Chicago, chairman of the western traffic executives committee, said current freight rate levels were not producing sufficient revenue to meet the requirements.
