Aug llS 4,1963 LATEST NEWS OF NEVADA AND CALIFORNIA Mineral Schools Chairman Says Board Acted Illegally To Resign In Protest Of Pay Hike Special to Gazette-Journal HAWTHORNE The chairman the Mineral County School has announced his intention to resign from the school ward in protest of what he called "legal action by the body. Arthur Turner said that before he resigns he will reverse board action approving pay increases lor faculty members and administrators. That action was taken at a special session of the board Wednesday night, which allegedly was called to select a new vice pnn- cipal at Mineral County High School to replace Fred Wiebke. Wiebke had signed a contract tor the 1963-1964 school term, but a release so he could accept a better position which had been offered him.

During the session Floyd Smal- superintendent of schools, requested pay increases for faculty members of $100 per year. He also asked for wage hikes for administrators on a pro-rated basis, up to an estimated maximum of $260 for himself. Turner said the request nas out of order, since the only item on the agenda for the special session was Wiebke's resignation He further pointed out there were no funds budgeted for such an increase.
