Borne of the big candy eggs have pretty landscapes built inside, but the average woman can't see the beauty in them she can in an Easter bonnet. Around thfs season eggs are in such demand enthusiastic farmers wouldn't mind seeing the hen made the national bird and egg-plant the national flower. A Western man bequeathed his money to a circus. Many can't help thinking this disposal of wealth would hardly give one the best kind of a show hereafter. A Spruce street man went to bed the other nierht with his boots on, and in answer to his wife's query, said he did it to protect himself from her cold feet.

Cool, wasn't he? Courting is a natural blessing. It teaches young people to speak mild ly, especially if the old folks are in the next room with the door open. "What a change," exclaimed the novelist Roe, "one little woman can make in a man's life!" Exactly; and what a heap of "change" she re quires while doing it. "Eleven advertising solicitors and three customers" was the woeful re port of a merchant recently. Had he but done business with a few of the papers represented he would have had eleven customers to every soli citor.

A young couple out West went through a mock marriage and the courts have decided that the cere mony was genuine. Aimoet daily the woods surronding us, are swaimed with people vainly searching for the beautiful may flower. By virtue of his strange office he was entitled to be addressed as your High ness, and rankei immediately next to the Grand Vizier, and before either the Cabinet Ministers or the great military dignitaries, even Khedive Abbas of Egypt and Prince Ferdinand of Bulgaria, the latter in his capacity of Turkish Governor-General of Eastern Roumelia, being compelled at Constantinople to yield the pas to the hideously ugly monster, for Yaver-Aga was frightful tc behold, being almost 6 feet 6 inches high, coal black, with a small head, narrow shoulders, an enormous stomach and the squeaky and shrill voice peculiar to his class. His official titl was that of "keeper of the keys of paradise," the Oriental idea of paradise being a place peopled with houris as lovely as those of the Sultan's harem. Yaver-Aga hail been for the past two and twenty years in absolute control of the latter, the despotic master of the whole feminine portion of the household of the Sultan and responsible to the latter for the safekeeping and fidelity and the discipline of every one of the women, r.o matter whether Sultanas or mere odalisques. He was probably the only man in the whole of the Ottoman Empire whom the Padishah implicitly trusted, and whose advice was usually directed against the European powers. Yaver-Aga was a Mohammedan of the most fanatic and' bigoted type, and there is much at Constantinople to indicate that he waa one of the principle instigators of the Armenian massacres.

As chief eunuch of the Uarew, it was his duty to attend to the punishment of those women who had offended the Sultan, and many hundreds of fair ones have, by his directions, been sewed into sacks and pitched, under the cover of night, into the wift-flowing waters of the Bosporus. There are several hundred eunuchs employed in the imperial seraglio, two-thirds of them coal black and the remainder whit's. But they constitute a form of luxury which Is slowly but surely disappearing from modern Mo hammedan life, as Is also polygamy. most of the leaning Turkish dignitaries, pashas and beys at Constantinople nowadays contenting themselves with one wife, by Which matrimonial rule they not only comply with the re quirements of their marriages but try to avoid all those harem Intrigues, Jealousies, and disputes that constitute the curse domestic life in Mohammedan countries. The chief eunuch of the married daugh' ter, Princess Zekle, has been nominat ed to succeed Yaver-Aga as the sec ond dignitary of the realm.

Yaver'a colossal fortune, part of which he owed to the prerogative of his office of charging 10 per cent, on everything entering and lefivlng the seraglio, and to the costly gifts he received from na tive and foreigi dignitaries, has been confiscated by the Sultan, the Aga hav ing left no heirn. Ilia Two Heart Don't Beat aa One A colored man giving his name as "Dr. William King" has been mysti fying Pennsylvania doctors. Ho en Joys the distinction of having two hearts which hs can control in their positions and teats at will. He has been examined bv several Bradford county doctors and they have been nonplussed Kine carries a rer tiflcate from a Philadelphia medical college stating he has been oper ated upon by physicians to determine the freak nature of his heart, and hi scars across his body are a further testimony to hTs truthfulness.

Apparently King has two sets of ribs, one outside and overlapping the other, and by ivtroklng his chest and by muscular cjntortiona one sot of ribs can be drawn down to cover his stomach. His two hearts, one on each side can be plainly felt to beat. Listening to the right heart, and with a hand on the left pulse, the observer is startled to have the pu'se stop and the heart beats continue, ret such is the case. JefTeraon'a Papcra Discovered. In the course of the removal of the books and paper of the Congressional Library to the new building in Wash Ington, an unexpected find has been made in the ettape of a large box of papers written by Thomas Jefferson These were foi nil Btored away in a little room neit the entrance to the library, which had been under lock and key for years.

They are entirely public papers, a ncte among them stating that all pri vate papers witH the lot had been re turned to the writers or contributors. It is believed that these particular papers came to the Congressional Library John Randolph. The papers have been transferred to the State Department, where they will be examined and filed away with other State papers by Librarian Allen. Saved. Can you explain vrhy all spoiled children belong to your neighbor only? In a few more day it will be developed whether Batan is still on hand when a man puts up the stovepipe in a new house. Yellow journalism may be deplored, but even it, like the clouds, has a silver lining. The New York Journal has headed a list witli $1,000 for the purpose of erecting a monument to the Maine heroes. In cases of disaster newspapers extras are gotten out so rapidly nowadays that soon we may expect a fire-chief purchasing a paper to see where the fire is, so he may lose no time in arranging his apparatus. The great New York dailies did not have artists on the spot at the time of the Maine disaster in Cuba waters, but they had artists with elastic imaginations at the home offlee, which answered just as well.

The Turk and Grecian war; the Chinese question the Maine explosion. In the excitement doth the Turk realize that he is being ignored and happily does he amuse himself by torturing his enemies. When newspapers cease to agitate, govern ments become Indifferent. A newspaper must be issued promptly because the train which carries it to the subscribers leaves on time. Consequently advertisers should prepare their copy promptly.

News must be gathered quickly Opinions must be given hastily yet based on a good sense and sound judgement. In view of all this haste why should not a subscriber also act promptly and pay for his paper? A bill has been Introduced in the Ohio to prohibit the of advertisements on tele graph and telephone poles without consent of the corporation. From $5 to $26 is the amount of the flue to be imposed.
