The 15,000 seat state-of-the art outdoor amphitheater will soon be the Penninsula's major facility showcasing top name entertainers from U2 to Lionel Richie, Boston Pops to the Grateful Dead. The Graham Organization is projecting a July opening. The Stone in San Francisco, one of the last clubs to cater to the young inexperienced bands, is fighting for the right to stay in business. Bay Area musicians who have been helped along by the club, Paul Kantner, Bonnie Hayes, Davie Meniketti, Piero L.

Malo (Freaky Executives) plus producer David Rubinson spoke up at the press conference to plea the Stones case. About 60 supporters showed up at the official hearing to offer their support for a cabaret license that will make the extra money to allow The Stone to book that new garage band from your neighborhood. The band is already working on material for a new album and tour leading them back to the bay area later this year. Ex-vocalist, bassist and songwriter Chris Witt Ketner from the disbanded Chrome Dinette has a delightful new band playing the bay area, Zula Pool. If you missed them at The Catalyst pay attention. They will be playing around the corner soon and deserve your ear. Bruce Springsteen is considering doing some club dates in the near future according to Nils Lofgren and they will be in places like the North Pole.

Lofgren who is doing an accoustic tour while the Street Band is on hiatus, will have his own ablum out by June. Neil Young has also invited him to join his band for a three to four week oversea tour this summer. INXS is due back home in Australia after a three month global tour. They will take a break while leader Michael Hutchence undertakes a major role in Richard Lowenstein's new film, "Dogs in Space." Lowenstein recently directed Pete Townshend's "White City" longform video. Honeymoon Suite will complete a European tour with Saga next month and then head for the U.S.

by April 1. Grammy winner, (and how) Phil Collins flew back to London to finish the new Genesis LP. There is no name as yet and not even any song titles but he claims it will be more "up" and different from the last. If all goes well the album wil be out by June followed by a year-long tour beginning in the U.S. in August.

It seems of late everyone wants to begin their tour in Australia. Stevie Ray Vaughan, a Grammy winner for Best Rock Instrumental, arrives for a tour there next month. He will be carrying a letter with him from the Governor of Texas, Mark White. Both Australia and Texas are celebrating their 150th anniversaries this year. The Rolling Stones played a private gig at the 100 Club on Oxford Street in London recently and proved that they are in fine shape for a tour.

The evening was dedicated to the memory of Ian Stewart and featured the Stones, Eric Clapton, Pete Townshend and many other friends who showed up to play. Jagger was, according to Keith Richards, not wanting to tour. After the club show a spokesman said the chances of a tour are 100 percent better than they were last week and the boys have gone off to work out the plan of action. What a killer album. The Alarm will perform a free, outdoor concert at UCLA April 12 which will be broadcast live worldwide and then released on a video only three weeks later.

The show will be called "Spirit of '86" and is expected to draw as many as 20,000 fans in Los Angeles. MTV will carry the show in the U.S., Muchmusic in Canada and similar music channels in Australia, Europe and Asia. The Eurythmics' Dave Stewart has had interest from the Disney Studios on a children's musical he is producing. It is called TVP for TV Planet. Stewart describes the film as being about life on a planet where music stopped existing because everybody became so bland.

All the musical instruments forgot they were musical instruments because people who operated them programmed such uninteresting music that they forgot what they were doing. Luckily, two funk earthling kids arrive to correct the situation. Annie Lennox is busy writing songs for the new Eurythmics LP and planning the world tour to begin in July. In addition to producing Keel, Gene Simmons has invited the band to make an appearance in his new movie "Never Too Young To Die." Keel play rowdy, beer guzzling types who are seen with strange collection of people in a club that Simmons' character owns. The movie will also star Vanity and will be in release later this year.

Triumph has started work to a new studio album with producer Ron Nevison. Nevison just produced the latest-greatest Heart album and the new Survivor Nevison will begin work on Night Ranger's album after Triumph. Brian Setzer has no plans to hire a permanent drummer for his new band, Radiation Ranch. He will have apparently got back on his foot too soon resulting in his losing his balance at rehearsal. He was sporting two black eyes for a while.

The tour debut in Hollywood March 14 for an audience that included members of Guiffria, Quite Riot, Keel, Motley Crue's Tommy Lee and his fiance, Heather Locklear of "Dynasty." Cyndi Lauper continues to work on her new album although there is no title at this point. Plans are for an early summer release. Plans for moving along for a Doobie Brothers tour and album this summer are well underway. This week Tom Johnston and Pat Simmons are finishing a demo tape which will go to Warner Brothers who released all their former albums. An offer to tour with The Stones has been made and if it should happen, it would be a reunion in itself since the bands toured together back in the 70's.

Michael McDonald's mangers say he is definitely interested; however, Keith Knudsen and John McFee will not be participating since their band Southern Pacific is doing so well. Jeff Baxter may be too busy with other projects. More news as soon as it happens. Odds and Ends: Rick Ocasek of The Cars is working on his second solo album due out in June. Stevie Nicks begins her tour in Houston on April 11 with Sun Country Wine Cooler acting as sponsor.

Keith Emerson, Greg Lake and drummer Cozy Powell are finally in rehearsals for a World Tour to beginn in Texas the end of June. The boys have recorded an instrumental version of Little Eva's No. 1 hit from 1963, "'The Locomotion." Accept is out with their new studio offering entitled "Russian Roulette." After a headlining sell out tour of Europe with Dokken, the band will head for th U.S by the end of May. The long awaited Peter Gabriel album has now been titled and scheduled for release. "So" is due out May 9.

Filmmaker D.A. Pennebaker is hoping to have a Jimi Hendrix concert film in the theaters within the next two months.

Pennebaker is assembling the movie from unused footage left over from the guitarist's performance at the Monterey Pop Festival in 1967. Along with the Hendrix project he is planning to use Montery Pop footage for film on Otis Redding and wants to release "Sweet Toronto," which includes footage of The Plastic Ono Band with John and Yoko, Eric Clapton, plus performances by Bo Didley, Little Richard and Chuck Berry. The start of Black Sabbath's tour has been delayed by one week as a result of injuries sustained by lead singer Glen Hughes. Hughes had a simple knee operation a few weeks ago, but Pottery.
