6 THE (RAN DON SUN, Wednnday-, July 10, 1974 hockey The rumors still flying between here and Winnipeg by BILL DAVIDSON hQB''4 mmLMw mSS Rm srrrrrrWsrrr rrrr! STUKUS Eight's a crowd referee Joe Udell. Bauche's effort didn't result in a goal, as Olympians and Way blanked Neelin 4-0. Doug Brown got three goals for Olympians, with Ed Mulholland notching the other. Neelin's Bob Bauche (kicking at ball) attempts to boot the sphere past Olympians' goalie Murray Way (1) during a Brandon Senior Soccer League contest Tuesday at the Mental Hospital pitch. Looking on at the extreme left is nounce the hiring of Pilous.

Pilous has apparently already started working for the Jets. He has been helping the team negotiate contracts with some of the players, the source said. Besides acting as a negotiator, another of his duties would be to act as playing-coach Bobby Hull's right-hand man. If that information is accurate, and The Sun has no reason to believe it isn't then Pilous will be behind the bench next season, replacing Nick Mtckoski, who acted in that capacity last season. Wheat Kings Because Pilous is expected to be joining the Jets, the Brandon entry in the Western Canada Hockey League is expected to announce his successor shortly.

Pilous, of course, has been with the Wheat Kings for the past three seasons. He was manager-coach with the team for the 1971-72 and 1972-73 seasons. Midway through a prolonged team slump last season, Pilous stepped down as coach. His successor for the remainder of the regular schedule was Rocky Addison. Since the schedule however, the Wheat Kings have undergone an ownership change, opting for a mass-participation scheme which also features a group of eight area businessmen who will guide the team.

The group of eight has apparently decided on a coach for the coming season, although nothing official has been announced. It is expected they will make that announcement shortly. Suit Sport Editor Annis Stukus is gone, Rudy Eilous could arrive, the Brandon Wheat Kings may have a new coach, and what fool said hockey was a winter sport? Here, then, are the latest developments -on the provincial hockey scene: Annis Stukus General manager of the Winnipeg Jets sinte the beginning of the World Hockey Association two season backs, Stukus reached a "mutual agreement" with club president Ben Hatskin regarding the time left in his contract. The Jets have been sold to a community-based group in Winnipeg, and Stukus said he understands he was to be offered a job with the new owners as a public relations man a job he said he was not interested in. Strangely enough, although his title was "general manager," Stukus didn't perform the duties normallv associated with that position.

He arrived with a bang on the Winnipeg scene in the summer of 1972 but since that time he has faded into obscurity. Stukus said Tuesday he has not yet decided what his next job will be, but he said he is considering returning to the West Coast and going back into radio work. Rudy Pilous Although the new owners of the Jets have indicated they will do away with the g.m.'s job once they formally take over the club, Pilous remains as the heir apparent to assume the g.m.'s duties. As early as the July long Pagan picks up first win ever PILOUS Now this is some present! BOISSEVAIN Pitcher Karen Anderson helped celebrate two of her coaches' birthdays Tuesday night by tossing her second no-hitter of the Brandon and District Ladies' Fastball League, leading Souris to a 23-0 win over Boissevain. Head coach Doug Palmer and first base coach Jean Morrison both had birthdays yesterday.

Anderson struck out 12 batters and issued only three walks in recording the gem. Her first no-hitter of the campaign came against this same Boissevain team, during the first game of the season. weekend holiday, Pilous told The Sun that he was joining the Jets "for Not only does the loss of Stukus create a vacancy in the team's managerial lineup, but Jet president Hatskin is also stepping down July 15. According to a source in Winnipeg, the new group will be holding a press conference, possibly as early as Thursday, at which time they'll an Pittsburgh's Manny Sanguillen hit a two-run double against the Braves. Winner Ken Brett, 11-5, singled in the seventh to set up the decisive run, which scored on a mishandled relay throw.

Cincinnati triumphed on six home runs, including a three-run shot by George Foster. Joe Morgan, Tony Perez, Cesar Gerohimo, Don Driessen and Johnny Bench had solo homers for the Reds. In the late American League games, Baltimore Orioles defeated California Angels 3-1 and Oakland A's blanked Cleveland Indains 7-0.

The Baltimore win put the Orioles in a first-place tie with the Indians in the East Division. Boog Powell of Baltimore hit a run-scoring single in the first inning and a tie-breaking sacrifice fly in the eighth. Mike Cuellar, 11-5, and Bob Reynolds combined to pitch a four-hitter against the Angels. Oakland's Jim Hunter, 12-8, who posted his second straight shutout, limited Cleveland to three hits. Joe Rudi's single capped a three-run outburst in the first.

by THE CANADIAN PRESS Rookie Dave Pagan of Snowden, making his third start of the season, picked up his first major-league baseball win Tuesday night as New York Yankees defeated Kansas City Royals 8-2. Graig Nettles' first grand-slam homer of his career helped Pagan, native of Nipawin, who was bothered in previous efforts by blisters. The 23-year-old Pagan, now 1-1, allowed six hits two of them run-scoring doubles by Amos Otis. Uth inning. The Tigers had tied it 2- 2 on Bill Freehan's run-scoring single with two out in the ninth. George Scott's solo homer leading off the bottom of the ninth inning gave Milwaukee its win. Earlier, Scott had driven home Robin Yount three times. Bill Russell drove in three Dodger runs with a single and a homer and team-mate Steve Garvey also homered.

Winner Al Downing, 3- 3, got relief help from Mike Marshall in the seventh to check the Phils. Houston's Lee May hit a two-run homer and a solo shot. Pitcher Dave Roberts, 6-7, fired a six-hitter against St. Louis to gain his first victory in more than a month. After Tim Foli's two-run single capped a four-run Montreal rally in the third, Mike Jorgensen's homer in the fifth became the key run against the Giants.

Dennis Blair, 3-2. was the winning pitcher. 'Leah alone on top SOURIS Dale Harvey pitched him Wanda Anderson, Karen's sister, led the Souris offence with a home run. Leeanne Kempthorne was the losing pitcher. Coach Palmer reported that the Souris ladies' team won a tournament at Lauder during the weekend, and Karen Anderson hurled both wins.

The first was 18-0 over Virden and the second, in the final, over Lauder 25-2. "In our last 22 innings, we've scored 94 runs and had only 16 scored against us," said Palmer. dered 10 hits and one walk, while striking out six Brandon batters. The Cloverleafs got all the runs they needed in the fourth inning as Mel Harvey singled and moved to third on an attempted sacrifice by team-mate Bob Thompson. The Cards booted'the ball on the play, one of six errors they committed in the game, and Thompson reached first safely.

Rick McFadyen followed with a sacrifice fly to centre that scored Mel Harvey and enabled Thompson to move to second base. Bill Chappie drove Thompson home with a single. Mel Harvey finished the game with two hits, the same number as Doug Fraser. Thompson, Chappie, Doug McPhail, Bob Wilson, Roy McLachlan and Dale Harvey, all with singles, rounded out the Brandon hitting. self out of a pair of bases-loaded jams in leading the Brandon Cloverleafs to a 5-0 victory over the Souris Cardinals in the only Manitoba Senior Baseball League game played Tuesday night.

The win was a big one for the Cloverleafs, who moved one full game ahead of the Cardinals in the battle for the league's South Division pennant. In picking up his third win in four decisions, Dale Harvey scattered five singles, walked as many and struck out seven. The Cardinals filled the bases in both the second and ninth innings, but failed to score.
