In the afternoon, his hit drives in the winning run for the New York Mets in a 7-4 victory at Chicago.

After the game, he's traded to the Montreal Expos and plays that night in Philadelphia. He enters the game in right field in the fourth inning and later gets a single. 1985 40-year-old Tom Seaver becomes the 17th SCO-game winner in major-league history with a six-hitter all singles as the Chicago White Sox beat the New York Yankees 4-1. 1996 Laura Davies shoots a 6-under-par 66 for a two-stroke victory over Nancy Lopez and Karrie Webb in the du Maurier Classic. 1996 The Atlanta Olympics end with U.S.

boxer David Reid's stunning gold-medal knockout, and the women Dream Team's romp over Brazil. Reid captures America's only boxing gold, knocking down Cuban Alfredo Duvergel, while the U.S. women rolls to a 111-87 victory behind Lisa Leslie's 29 points. A record 11,000 athletes from 197 countries make it the biggest Olympics. Santee took top honors.

Snyder added to his point's lead by notching his fifth straight top five. Clemens held on from third while Tony Eckart was fourth, his first top five of the season, and top rookie Ricky Getz completed the top five. Fourteen-year old rookie sensation Mike McManus of Washington Crossing had no trouble in racing to his third DA Modified win of the season. Starting second in the 20-lap feature, McManus moved into the lead on lap one and from there was never headed. The Juvenile Diabetes Foundation also came away a winner as McManus is donating 50 of his season winnings to this worthy cause.

Anthony Sesely helped his championship hopes by coming from eighth and posting second once again, while Jason Trinchere, Mike Carroll, and Amanda Sesely completed the top five. Paul Koehler, of Northampton, held off the hard charging efforts of Todd Stehle and division point's leader Tom Flanagan en-route to scoring his second 20-lap Late Model win of the year. Kohler started fifth and was running second after just one lap. He then hustled the lead away from early pacesetter Barry Christman on lap three and thereafter had to contend with Stehle for second five laps from the end. Despite all the pressure though, Koehler held his ground, putting the Enterprises No.

51 into the Winner's Circle for the One of the premier veterans of eastern asphalt racing, Chip Santee of Walnutport raced to his first feature win of '99 Saturday night at Mahoning Valley Speedway. Santee started 10th in the 20-car field and worked ahead of Chris Clemens for the lead on lap six. After attaining the top spot, he began to flex his muscle and pull away from the pack with a very comfortable lead. Points leader Rod Snyder moved to second with just a few laps remaining but could not mount a challenge as time ran out and Santee cruised to victory. The win, his 11th in a Modified, helped him continue a yearly-winning streak of at least one win over the last eight seasons.

Rookie Chaz Surman jumped out to the early lead but the young up-start ran into trouble on lap three when he lost control and went into a spin off turn four. As he did it caused a chain reaction that afterwards gobbled up 11 other cars, with seven, including Surman, unable to return. Among the most significant being sidelined was top-five point man Jason Arthofer. When the smoke had settled and the race went back to green, Clemens was the leader but not for long as Santee worked inside of him on lap five and was out front the next time around. While Santee headed the field, Snyder heavily pressured Clemens.

It wasn't until five laps were left that Snyder got by him but that would be as far as he could climb as there was no denying who was the strongest here as second time this year. Koehler has been on a hot streak of late as he notched his seventh straight top five finish which included two wins. Stehle over-took Flanagan on the final lap while Dave Wallace and Christman were fourth fifth respectively. It was an exciting run in the 20-lap Street Stock main as five different drivers shared the lead with Mark Deysher of Bath, the final man up-front when the checkered flag waved. Deysher came from seventh on the grid and took the lead from Scott Lesher when he suddenly slowed with just two laps to go.

Deysher, who ran in the top five the entire race, then held on for his second win of the season over Scott Meckes, Troy Bollinger, Randy Schlenker and Brian Labar. The 4-Cylinder main also featured a former standout in quarter-midget racing as Flemington, N.J. 15-year-old Andy Walko drove his Walko automotive No. 27 to his second win of the season. Walko jumped to the early lead from his outside front row starting spot.

He then had to hold off a very determined Barry Heimbach for the win. Jon Moser, point's leader Steve Nederostek and Pat Hagan completed the top five. This coming Saturday night, Aug. 7, it will be Gambler's night at the speedway. The top point men in all divisions will play a key roll in deciding the inversion of the starting grids.
