SENATOR LAINE AT STOCKTON One of tho largest mee ings ever held in Sau Joaquin waa addressed at Stock-ton last uight by IIou Tbos Laine of Santa Clara who wasalso a Delegate to the late Convention Mr Laine is one of the most powerful aud effeotive speakers in the State a deep and solid thinker and au able jurist He fairly pulled the Constitutional skeleton limb from limb and exposed its rottenness as few other speakers have done He showed wherein the farmers would suiter hardships through its operations how the school system would be brolu-u down and ruiut-d the charitablo imtitutions rende red how in short all classes would suffi except Ihe large land holders and men eif capital He said the railroad companies did not oppose it because simply of tho Railroad Commission clause teeause that is as good a tiling as they would want hut because if the instrument should go into effect there would bo nothing for the railroads to carry aud they would have to go out of business Already tho bad fleets of the proposed organic law were felt in the State Business had come to a standstill aud enterprises of every description had been nipped in the bud leaving men without work for their hauds to do and capitul without employment He thought that the early pioneers of our civilization who brought California forth from barbarism into the bright fields of enlighiment who established her present Constitution uodcr which the colleges and schools of the State have flourished aud an advancement made in business that has been without a parallel should know better what is good for us than do the Notuul Take courago The men who had the nerve wisdom and industry to erect so grand a monument of human wisdom and power will have the courage to protect it from every assault be it of wickedness or JUDOE HOIL Of Sacranieuto aldressed a large at Susanville Lassen county last evening He mado a close analytical comparison between the present and the proposed Constitution and proved to the satisfaction of his hearers that tho latter instrument is a aciious menace to the interests and industries of tho State The inconsistencies anil injustice of the mortgage lax clause were shown to be directly against the interests of the poorer (-lasers and the Article on Revenue and Taxatiou was so explaiucd as to convince all fair-minded persons that it was full of danger to the people OTUKlt
