1 club The Senior Citizens Friendship Club met recently at Salem United Church of Christ. Ninety-four members attended. The Rev. Fred Oleck and his wife, Jane, were welcomed into the club. Oleck installed the new officers for 1997; Valeria Funk, president; Loretta Allison, vice president; Terry Provizzi, secretary; Dorothy Beattie, treasurer; Dorothy Hart, financial secretary; Marjorie Anthony, chaplain; and Margaret Hughes, Alberta Richie and Jane Gerhard, the new board of directors.

Phyllis Martienssen and Doris and Bill Wentzel will serve on the hospitality board. They would appreciate being informed of illnesses, hospitalization and deaths. Lions Club meets Members of the Quakake Valley Lions Club will meet Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. at the Still Creek Tavern. The guest speaker will be Lion Diana Steward.

Her topic will be "China and Its Desires." Club President Jack Kester will conduct the business session. Invited dinner guests, winners of the annual Christmas lighting contest, will be introduced by George Moon, chairman. Returns from the hoagie sale are due the night of the meeting. Recently, eight members attended the 14U Zone meeting where plans were made for zone activities. Gray Ladies meet The Gray Ladies held their staff meeting at Weatherwood.

Eighteen residents observing February birthdays received gifts. Attending were included Mary Tulay, Pat Gerhard, Phyllis Martienssen, Roseanna Coxe, Helen Kistler and Ruth Huhn. On Wednesday there will be games and refreshments, and a birthday party will be held Feb. 26. Carol Reagan will provide entertainment.

There were 38 hours volunteered during January. The next staff meeting is March 5. Unscramble these four Jumbles, one letter to each square, to form four ordinary words. for Lenten services. WRECKER BOOSTERS The Wrecker Booster Club will meet Wednesday at 7 p.m. at the high school. Plans for the spring banquet will be discussed. Parents of junior and senior high school athletes as well as coaches and supporters are invited.

Included will be plans by the club to present Freeland Borough Council with the John M. "Lefty" Watahovich memorial plaque on March for permanent placement in the borough building, honoring the late Freeeland police chief, mayor, councilman and civic leader.

Watahovich also was an outstanding Rotarian. Also planned is a 70th anniversary celebration by the club and presentation of two Paul Harris Fellowship awards to deserving members to be named; arrangements for a bus trip on April 5 to the Radio City Easter Show in New York; and assisting the recreation board in establishing an ice-skating rink in the community. Anniversary is under way Michael Lacey, owner and registered pharmacist of Noc-chi's Pharmacy on Centre Street in Freeland, announced ths store is celebrating its second anniversary having opened in late January 1995. Lacey purchased the business from Patricia Nocchi. In conjunction with the anniversary, many items in the store are on sale at low prices.

Nocchi's now features Victoria's Candies, scented candles by Village and a full line of greeting cards for all occasions. Lacey also announced the new PACE applications are available and he will help anyone in completing the forms. Nocchi's is also an agent for United Parcel Service and accepts packages daily. HOME FROM HOSPITAL Ralph W. Tiglio of Upper Lehigh, is recuperating at home after undergoing surgery at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center in Plains Township, Wilkes-Barre.
