BURBANK Unusual interest Is being evidenced throughout the entire aircraft Industry in the construction of the new Vega, which is now undergoing its initial tests under the direction of Vernon Dor Tell, test pilot. Dorrell reports the flight performance of the new model more than exceeds expectations.

Upon completion of a week of "shake down" flights, the new Vega, termed "Star liner" will be subjected to a rigorous 250 hour schedule of flight tests preparatory to the granting of an approved type certificate for the craft by the C.A.A. One of the many interesting features incorporated in its design is the Unitwin power plant. This two-in-one engine power plant is comprised of two separate inverted in-line, six-cylinder Menasco engines, generating 260 H.P. each, mounted side by side and geared to drive a single propeller. Each engine is controlled by an individual throttle and may be operated independently of the other without any drag from the inoperative engine, in case one should fail, thus giving the plane a tremendous safety margin.

The Vega is a sixplace low-wing monoplane with a top speed of 210 m.p.h, and a cruising speed of 181 miles. It weighs 6000 pounds and has a cruising range of 1060 miles with a ceiling of 21,500 feet. Equipped with a tricycle landing gear, it has a landing speed of only 61 m.p.h. Mac Short, president of the Vega Airplane Company, a sub. sidiary of the Lockheed Aircraft Corporation announces that one Vega Starliner has been purchased by Mid-Continent Airlines of Kansas City, which will be put into service early this summer.
