Remember that fellow who built a boat in his basement and couldn't get it out? Well, Richard Fitzgerald won't have the same problem with the airplane he is building in his living room. When the craft is com plete, it will be taken to the air port in three sections two wings and fuselage. The Elmira businessman began the project a year ago. He expects to be flying his plane this summer.

The test flight will bring some suspense, he admits. But I ra not really worried," he says. "It's just a question of whether it will per form the way I want it to. I have no doubt that it will hold together and fly." The plane's presence has startled many visitors. A wing fills the second living room.

Often, the project spills into the kitchen. Mrs. Fitzgerald, who learned how to use a sewing machine to qualify as chief fabric sewer, and John A. With the exception of the engine, all parts have been made from raw materials, such as steel tubing and plywood. Fitzgerald, a member of Bing-hamton Chapter, Experimental Aircraft has been flying for three years and has been talking for nearly as long about building his own plane.

Finally his wife called his bluff. "I'll buy the plans and specifications if you build it," she said, never expecting he would. The one-place Model SA3A Stits Playboy will be 18 feet long, with a 22-foot wingspan and a 65 horsepower Continental engine. Fitzgerald figures his cost will be $1000 for a plane that would sell for $5000. FLOWERS FERRARI the Florist "THE FINEST IN FLOWERS" 1222 Pacific Ave.
