II, mi THE DENTON RECORD-CHR0NICLB Fourth Grade At Houston Honors Parents, Teachers. Students "Christmas Around the World," culminating activity of work in social studies, was presented recently by the fourth grade of Sam Houston school to the Parent Teacher Association, the North Texits branch of the Association of Childhood Education and the students of the school. Under the direction of their teacher, Mrs. Henry G. Shands, play was presented by the following students, Bob Martin, Patsy White, Troy Barber, Cornelia Pruitt, Lana House, Anils Hassenpflug, Sandra Gross, Sammy Miller, Joyce Emmons, Roy Richter, Varied Study Holds Holiday Meet, Program Varied Study Department of the Ariel Club had a Christmas meeting Monday in the home of Mrs.

W. B. McClurkan, 812 W. Oak, with Mrs. Raymond Wheeler and Mrs.

Emory Barton as co-hostesses. Mrs. Joe Kimbrough was narrator for the musical program. Mrs. Ben Ivey sang "Ave Maria" and "Jesu Mrs.

Stanley Monroe and Mrs. Lyle Montgom- played a piano duet, "Haban- Mrs. Montgomery also played "Clair de Lune." firs. Emory Barton played I umeresque" by Ncgre and Mrs. Join Storrie played themes from tin Nutcracker Suite by Tchaikov- Jimmy Steward, Patty Yankloskl, Norma Boyd, Billle Yarbrbugh, Ronny Futrell, Margaret Erwin and David Tutf.

Members of the choir who sang Christmas carols were Jerry Bodkins, Donald White, Doris Marie Rails, Dorothy Wstlcins, Joyce Simmons, James Sims, Sonny Futrell, Jerry Hilliard, Joe Allen Law, Tommy Rackley, Dan Surratt and Gerald Splawn. Class members were hosts recently to the fourth grade of North Texas Laboratory School for a get- acquainted party. Interest centers in the room were explained and handcraft work was exhibited. Refreshments of apple-turkeys were served. The North Texas State College class in elementary education, taught by Dr.

James H. Dougherty, was entertained with an open-house by the fourth grade class members recently. Students of the fourth grade explained the procedures used in making and utilizing the "Little Theater" and the puppets. "The Coming of Squanto" was presented. Other activities explained were the sand-table depicting "Mickey Sees the U.

S. A. and the science corner with its aquarium, alligator home and chameleon cage. Procedures used in decorating wooden bowls and etching the metal ash trays which were on exhibit were explained by the children. Scenes from three language arts plays were given.

These scenes were taken from "Hansel and Gretel," "Pied Piper of Hamlin," and "School Days in Disneyvllle." Assistant teachers in the fourth grade are Misses Jean Finnie, Joan Ridley and Jimmie Low Ramer, students at NTSC. CHRISTMAS DECORATIONS can be placed on bookshelf when space is at a premium. The Bethlehem scene pictured above has a tiny bulb concealed in the manger to provide a aura of light about the figure of the Christ child. Young'Married People Have Christmas Party Young married peoples class of the First Baptist Church held a Christmas party Friday evening in the home of Mr.

and Mrs. Jim Ganzer, 1U1 Avenue A. Theme of the party was "1216," which was the goal of the Baptists in the Sunday School contest between the Methodists and the Baptists. Mr. and Mrs.

Doyle Baird were' in charge of games. Mrs. Bill Bennet, Mrs. Jay Durham and Mrs. Ganzer served refreshments to 20 members.

ACTIVITIES CALENDAR TUESDAY Parents Council of Denton High School will meet in the school auditorium at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday to complete plans for the newly created organization. FRIDAY Members of the Soroptimist Club will hold their Christmas party at their regular luncheon meeting at noon in Hubbard Hall Friday. Gifts will be brought lor the Sorop- timist Sickroom Loan Supply unit. Shands Honor NTSC Coaches Mr.

and Mrs. H. G. Shands, 1023 W. Sycamore, faculty members and their wives of the men's department of health and physical education at North Texas State College Friday night following the basketball game between NTSC and East Texas State College to celebrate Shands birthday.

Christmas decorations were used ir. the living room. The refreshment table was laid with a lace cloth and centered with a 5 branch silver cnadelabra holding white tapers and surrounded by holly. Mrs. J.

C. Matthews and Mrs. W. G. Woods poured punch while Shands served the cake.
