Jewish War Prisoners Escape from Germany Jerusalem (JTA) A group of 48 Jewish soldiers attached to British units who were captured by the Germans during the battle in the western desert, and who were recently released by the Red Army after escaping from the prison camp in Germany where they were held, have arrived here. The liberated prisoners disclosed that they had met in the Polish city of Bydgoszcz thousands of Jewish women who were saved by the advancing Russian troops from German "death camps." They estimated that there are at present about 8,000 Jewish survivors in Bydgoszcz. folksongs.

This Committee, which will endeavor to bring about a conciliation between the Dr. Silver and Dr. Wise factions, was instructed, however, to reject any proposal which may te construed as a reprimand to Dr. Wise or which would imply his ceasing active leadership in the Emergency Council.

The appointment of si ch a Committee was voted following a long debate in which Dr. Israel Goldstein, chairman of the meeting, reported on an exchange of letters between Louis Lipsky, Dr. Wise and Dr. Silver. In his reply to Mr.

Lipsky's communication, Dr. Silver was reported to have stated songs, dont Know exactly wny. camps wneie jtn.cni.ijr ic- Possiblv it's that I heard a great leased from Theresienstadt, are deal of Jewish folk music from staying. Reliable sources in Washington disclose that Jewish Representation at the United Nations Conference in San Francisco is more than just a possibility, according to the Washington correspondent of the Independent Jewish Press Service. The question of Jewish representation was reportedly discussed at a meeting of the American delegation. Although no result was announced, there seemed to be general agreement, however, that if representation is allowed, the Jewish Agency for Palestine would provide the representative. To insure the broadcast possible alliance of World Jewry in the presentation of a post-war program for the Jewish people, the American Jewish Conference, the Board of Deputies of British Jews and the World Jewish Congress joined in inviting the Jewries of Russia and South Africa to participate in a committee to draft and present a common program at San Francisco.

Fivp thousand Christian clergy joined in urging that President Roosevelt officially reprimand Ibn Saud for "pro-Nazi anti-Semitic statements" made by his (Ibn Saud's) advisor. Hal Lehrman, a Marshall Field correspondent, reported from London that the chief Arab delegates to the Pan-Arab Congress had expressed violently anti-Jewish sentiments. The American Jewish Conference issued a statement urging a United Nations' decision on the Palestine question now. Louis Lipsky, Co-Chairman of the Conference, charged that the U. S.

State Department and the British Colonial Office were promoting the foes of Zionism. Hundreds of Jewish G.I.s and Wacs, including Americans flown in from Cairo through special Army arrangement, spent their Passover furlough in Palestine. The Jewish Agency arranged for the servicemen to attend Seders at private homes and also provided opportunities for them to tour Termites at Work! For the nth time we call attention in this column to some so-called German Socialists, refugees or emigres from Germany, who denounce in the strongest possible language the anticipat- ed "unfair treatment" of Germany by the Allies. These Socialists, some of them allegedly Jews, did not work themselves up into such, or any kind of lather over the mass-slaughter of three million Jews in Europe. Can't the Justice Department do something about these termites? Some pan-Germanists are working for a new kind of Anschluss, between a "democratic" Germany and Austria.

The prime mover is alleged to be an anti-Nazi prince who not so many years ago graced Jewish meetings, but in recent years put out feelers proposing that Germany, after she loses the war, be given colonies in Africa so as to compensate for the frustrations driving her to war and to destroy people The gentleman is a professor at one of the finest universities in this country Incidentally, have you gone through the recent book lists and counted the number of mercy-for-the-Germans books published by so-called German emigres, former Socialist Reichstag members who could not protect the world against ijcrmany, qui are reaay xo aeiena uermany against xne woria: Why do publishers issue this trash, especially at a time of paper shortage. Of course, some publishers have made it a practice to solicit from authors payment for a certain number of copies, to guarantee initial expenses. If so, it would be extremely interesting to learn whose purse supplies the guarantee-payment for some of the "soft peace" books by Germans. Religious Note The choral music program presented by Temple Emanuel in con junction with its Centenary in-j eluded Infancy of the Holy Family. Isn't that stretching a point? This wasn't, after all, a Church Centenary.

There was also a queer misprint. The Story of Noah read The Story of Nor-ah. For all we know, Norah may have an interesting story. Hollywood Note A friend of movie mogul, Louis B. Buch- manites are using indiscriminate ly, names of prominent persons to bolster the movement's prestige, and denials of these endorsements are coming in very fast from per sons named as endorsers.

Racial Discrimination Has No Place In America, Pacific Commander Says i French Government Refuses Emigration of Jewish Children Deported Parents May Still Return, Official Statement Explains Paris (JTA) The French Government has refused to grant permission for the emigration to Palestine of 200 Jewish children who were scheduled to leave, it is learned here. As a result the sailing of the vessel on which they were to have travelled has been postponed, but not cancelled. Refusal of exit visas for the children was ordered by the French Government on the basis that the parents of these youngsters were deported by the Germans from France to unknown destinations and may still return to France and demand their children.

Under the French law, parental authorization is required before a child may leave the country. No Exit Visas to Children with Relatives in Palestine In refusing the Jewish children permission to leave for Palestine, the French authorities made it clear that exit visas will not be granted even to youths over 18. Thus far, exit visas have been refused even to children who have relatives both in France and Palestine who authorized their departure. Exit visas have also been refused to Jewish children whose parents have never been in France. French authorities stated that the government is contemplating the establishment of a special institution for the education of all children whose parents were deported from the country during the German occupation.

BECKER Announces PURCHASE AND OPERATION that he considers the controversy no longer as being focused on the ZOA and that the center of the controversy is the American Zionist Emergency Council. Zionist Policy Committee Issues Statement The Zionist Policy Committee issued the following statement: "The action of the Executive Committee of the Zionist Organization of America is a welcome indication that its leadership is at last beginning to respond to the pressure of public opinion and the clearly expressed wishes of their constituents throughout the country.

Unfortunately, the tone and content of the press release issued by the ZOA administration is not conducive to the creation of a more wholesome atmosphere looking toward the liquidation of the controversy for it is itself controversial in character. "The peace gesture is vitiated by insinuations directed against Dr. Silver and his supporters. They particularly resent the baseless insinuation that Dr. Silver or his followers have, at any time, demanded the elimination of Dr.

Stephen S. Wise. Nor is it true that Dr. Silver has declined to confer, but on the contrary, he repeatedly indicated his readiness to meet with Dr. Wise.

Under the circumstances we must reserve judgment. The membership of the Committee to be appointed by Dr. Goldstein may give a further clue to the intentions of the ZOA leadership and indicate to what extent this is a genuine peace move or possibly only a bit of 'psychological 'pHi o- of Jsnik 111 cSE ill TOMAT0f soupf bf't limm r. uM few Loo New York (JTA) In the armed forces members of all faiths have been brought closer together and it has been demonstrated that bigotry and discrimination- have no place in American civilian or military life, Lieut.
