Is accompanied this time by his wife and two children. The Nippon Maru brought only twen ty-six tonB of freight here and took no coal. She left on time at 4 o'clock. The steamer Manauense, which arriv ed in San Francisco on April 20, nine days from Mahukona, will continue In the Hawaiian trade. The steamship Cailfornlan, one of the big steamers being built for the American-Hawaiian line, will be launched at the Union Iron works on May 12.

She Is of about 8.B00 tons, and will ply between Honolulu, San Francisco and New York. The transport Warren should ba the next steamer to arrive here from Snn Francisco. She was to have left May 1 and ought to make the trip In seven or eight days i iTfiiii RULES FOR LOCAL CARGOES FOR THE AUSTRALIA. Hides Must be Fumigated Hananas and Pineapples Must be Sent Direct From Outside Districts. Since the quarantine was declared off all Honolulans have been clear of plague restrictions to business except the exporters of bananas, pineapples, hides and other like commodities, which used to go from here In large quantities.

Dr. Carmlchael has received many inquiries from people who are anxious 10 ship bananas on the next trip of the Australia, and growers of pineapples are also desirous of getting some shipments away. There have been very heavy losses In pineapples, as well as In bananas, on account of the rules preventing their shipment. It Is a question now whether the San Francisco authorities will receive such goods, until thirty days after Honolulu was declared a clean port. Dr.

Carmlchael stated this morning that he thought that the banana and pineapple men need not fear If their goods were shipped according to Ills Instructions. "It will be necessary to continue some precautions to satisfy the authorities," said the doctor. "1 think that if the goods go from here with official notice that they are not dangerous there will be no trouble. Hides will have to be fumigated, but fumigation would spoil the fruits. "The bananas and pineapples will have to come from outside districts.

They may be sent from Ewa, for Instance, to the railway wharf, and from there direct to the steamer. Under these conditions I Ithink the shippers can count upon having no trouble at the other end." The Australia will probably have a big cargo of bananas, as thousands of bunches have been left on the trees, awaiting the time when they might be shipped. NEW SUGAR SHIP. SAN FRANCISCO, April 24. The Ship Emily Reed arrived on the Sound In ballast from Hongkong on the 21st.

This ship was recently purchased by Hind, Holph Co. of San Francisco, from the former owner, A. R. Heed of Waldboro, Me. The purchase price, It Is understood, Is $10,000.

The Emily Reed was built on the Maine coast In 1880 and is registered at 1,407 tons. The ship Is a fine specimen of her clasi and Is considered a good purchase by marine men. She was lately refitted, re- caulked and remetaled at a cost of $28,000, Mexican. It is expected that she will go-Into the Hawaiian sugar trade, COFFEE. Otis, McAllister Report on th Market.

Otis, McAllister In their latent coTee circular say: 'Heavy local arrivals and the easier condition of other markets have resulted In a divided sentiment between buy ers and sellers as to the future of prices. coupled witn dullness or trade has narrowed the movement here during the past fortnight and at the present mo ment It Is difficult to effect sales unless at concessions which the principal hold ers decline concede, although generally willing to meet fractional differences. Enough coffee, however, has been offer ed and sold at about buyers' views from various sources sometimes from second hands to keep Jobbers supplied ond those who would sell were com pelled to enter the market they found if not the one they wished. "Demand Is again running litrgely to coffees of cheap cost rather than those of merit and higher value and Is sufficient to keep stocks of the former continually at an ebb and prices fairly firm, although recently affected In a small degree by easier rates for unwashed Salvador. Visible supply figures show a decrease during March of L23.000 bags.

"Stocks In first hands consist of bags Costa Rica, 272 Nicaragua, Salvador, 31,534 Guatemala and 2 677 Mexican; In all 8,421 bags as against 35,937 bags same time last ear." The world's visible supply Is given April 1, 1900 as 0,222,936 bags, as against C.417,936 on March 1, 1900. and fi.515.558 on April 1, 1899. The sales of Hawaiian, since Mnrch 9, have been bags of Hawaiian fancy washed at sixteen cents a pound. A GOOD THING. There's one good thing when they feel dry.
